4 link suspension and hauling a heavy load?

What is the benefit of a 4 link. and can i haul a heavy load.

or should i go with leafsprings instead of a 4 link with coils.

4 link setups I wouldnt think would have a bearing on heavy loads, what does have an affect is the spring rate, on the rear of a truck the average coilovers springs have a 400lb spring rate if you going to need to haul heavier loads go to a 500lb spring rate. At the same token why would you change to a different rear suspension than stock if it is for a working truck. I could see changing it to be different or for performance reasons. If your changing it to hall heavy loads then put load helpers on or get a trailer that will hall the heavy loads. Increasing spring rate, installation of help springs or installing super duty leaf springs will make this ride a lot stiffer when empty. JMO

i did'n know about the spring rate , thanks. my 64 works hard and plays hard.i whant it to work hard and preform better.will a 4 link help.

Trailing arms are a good suspension setup, I dont remember exactley how the rear suspension setup is. I used to have a 62, but that was almost 14yrs ago. So I couldn't honestly say how much better it would be. I put a 4 link setup on my 67 but havent been able to really judge yet as to validity on how well it going to perform, still waiting on getting the frontend properly setup. On the 67 the springs are located before the rear axle thus putting a kit on from ECE that replaces the springs and coils to a coilover setup behind the axles thus giving a better handling and performance gain, I don't know if anyone on the board has put this setup on they're trucks or how well it has performed for them , maybe someone will chime up and makes some comments about it.

I had F9000 Firestone bags over the axle with a parallel 4 link on my 83 and each bag could handle 1500lbs so I was able to haul lots of stuff when I moved.
