What is this?
I really wish i had a pic, but will get camera working soon enuff. But theres this button or switch on the drivers side floor. It's back there pretty far, and its inbetween, somewhat, of the clutch and parking brake. Metal cylinder pushing down to switch and clicking. Connected to small terminal bolted on floor with 3 leads(green, yellow, brown). Haven't found where they lead to yet. But it doesn't seem to be connected to my dash or cross thru fuse box. I know pics would be a lot more helpful, but any idea what this is or might be??

That would be the switch for your brights.

That be the dimmer switch, PUSH IT and you might get a bright idea. There is something more than the headlights that is dim here.

I hear enuff of that in the day. But did try, and no bright idea came to me. Been blocked for last 17 years.

I work at a place where everyone is always telling me what I should do and how to do it. Belileve it or not; I am one of the Bosses, but there is always another group that my company pays to tell us that we don't know how to do it right. Bull: Is all I can say. I imagine that today's world has no clue as to what the old dimmer switch is for. I personally miss the little button on the floor board. It would simplify the column mods a little.

No that was meant for Bodyshopdropout. I've never pumped a well for drinking water, pumped one just to get water out for fun though. My grandpa has one in his back yard.

That reminds of the time many years ago when I first had a 78 olds cutlass supreme. I drove it for a couple of days with the bright lights on. I couldnt find the dimmer switch. It just isnt on the floor. I think 78 for cars or at least g bodys the dimmer switch went to the columun . That 78 cutlass sure was a nice riding car.

haha, good point Ric83, reading this thread i was thinking....floor dimmer, check.....rotary phone, check.....hand pumped well, check.....oh crap, does this mean at 32 i'm concidered old?

Well its good you 'old' guys are around and know all this. I would kept clicking the damn thing and prob never known what it did. It is more convienent having it on floor, not having to take hand away from wheel.

Ahh, yes. The floor dimmer switch. I remember those. Our '74 Dodge Dart had one.
Like Schwartzhund, I'm 32 as well. I'm getting to feel a wee bit older since I'm now running into younger gearheads who don't know what carburetors are!  I've still got to bridge the entire spectrum. 2 bbl. Rochester and Delco points ignition on the boat, 4 bbl Rochester (Quadrajet) and HEI on the Suburban, and MPFI with electronic ignition on the Jeep. The new stuff isn't all bad. Heck, OBD II even tells you where it hurts!

O.K., call me a lil' kid, but i was out there taking off exhaust and manifold, but i just had to click that button a few times. Battery is not in, but just now that i know what it is, i have fun clicking it. Love pushing buttons.

the dimmer switch gets kinda anoying, my floor matt and wiring keeps getting tangled up around it, thinking of moving it into a switch panel im making.

I've heard of people connecting this switch to a pump in the rear wheelwells to shoot bleach on your tires for big burnouts...
