Lowered brake line questions, first post.
Hello all,
Have been lurking since I bought a 69 1/2 ton SWB step. This site is an excellent brain tank. My truck was lowered by the PO. Looks to be orginal springs heated or cut to drop the truck. 235 75/15's and the top of the fender arc is 30.5 front and back. I have new power disc brakes installed w/new ball joints and brake hose. The brake hose is where I have a problem. Now that the truck is lowered there isn't enough room for the flexible hose to avoid contact w/the spring or the bump stop. What are the lowered people of the list using for brake lines? I have thought of buying the correct lowering springs, to give me a better ride, where is the best place to buy from? You have the wrong hoses or something. I've lowered three of my trucks in a row 4 to 5 inches in the front with no problems at all using the stock brake hoses. I suspect that someone has installed the wrong application hoses in your truck.
Try to get a picture please.

Welcome to the board. I used the steel braided lines from www.inlinetube.com
They cost a bit but are worth it. I would call them and tell em whats up. They are very helpful. Nice truck BTW.

I just finished putting dropped sprindles and cut one coil off the front springs and I had a similar problem. My front suspension is a 75 model but my frame is a 68. With the drop the bends in the front brake lines that are formed steel (the turn that mounts to the caliper) was not bent enough and was hitting my upper ball joint. I just cornered it in my vise and tightened it carefully until I had the bend I needed but being careful not to split my hose. I hope you understand what I'm talking about and I hope this helps.

I have been working on the truck today. Pulled the motor (low oil press) out, will be pulling the turbo 350 tomorrow. The turbo 350 is in there w/the standard trans cross member still attached, will be cutting that out as I have a 700r4 to install as well.
I checked the brake hoses again. My truck was orginally man drum and converted to p/disc. I wonder if the drum hoses locations are diff than the disc mounts? I am going to replace some brake lines while I have access to the inner frame as the motor is out. I may move the hose bracket to make a better attaching point for that hose. Also I have fender badges (c-10 & 350) to mount to the fender. I will pull the inner fender out and attach them w/the supplied nuts. I need to know where they go excatly. How far down from the top and over from the door. Thanks John |

Used Early Classic Enterprises components when my '69 was dropped, using spindles. Installed new stock height springs. They included a bracket to re-position the point at which the brake (flex) hose attached. So, you might want to give them a call, if the other suggestions don't work for you.

The brake hoses mount in front of the crossmember on disc brake trucks.
The brake hoses mount behind the crossmember in drum brake trucks. When I converted my 70 (see signature) to discs, Early Classic sent me some special hoses that allow the disc brake install and still use the stock behind the crossmember drum brake hose location. I had the same problem and had to wind up calling them and asking what to do, and then waiting another week for the hoses to be sent out.
