Pics of the 77 blazer
It's a 2WD! Plans include some lowering,TBI fuel injection, and 700R4 OD. New paint will come this fall. Air next year and interior when I can.
Anyone, Did all blazers come with bucket seats? Also I was told by the guy who sold it to me that the 100 mph speedo was kinda rare. Any suggestions on a clean way to mount a tach? |

First off, NICE BLAZER!!! I have a 77 as well, they are definately fun to drive and work on.
About the speedo. I am 99% positive speedos were never offered in different MPH for the same years as an option. I believe all 73-77/78 used the 100 MPH unit, and 78/79 on up used the 85 MPH units. I could be wrong though. All Blazers had bucket seats, but not all Blazers had the center console. Here is where I mounted my tach on my 77 Blazer.

Jeff, your truck is *****in too.. I love the cheesey factory woodgrain dash overlay (My '77 has that too, im being serious) with the later model steering wheel. '77 is my favorite year for interior styling (hell exterior too)

I mounted the tach to the right of the radio on the painted part of the dash on my 75. It was easy to see, and out of the way.

Jeff;
Late 1980 is when GM changed over to the 85 MPH speedometer. I just parted out an 80 suburban, and it has the 85 mph speedometer and the orange pointers. I am 99% certain that it is original, because the clock has the knob at the 12:00 position and it is not quartz. Both of my 78's have 100 MPH speedometers. Doug |

Greetings lovetorev! Welcome to the forum. That's a good looking Blazer you scored. To clear up a couple of issues, all 1/2 ton trucks came with a 100 mph speedometer until 1980. The only thing that could be different to make it "rare" would be a factory tach. A lot of guys here have replaced the stock cluster with a tach cluster. That is the best way (in my opinion) to mount a tach in these trucks.
I can't seem to find it in any of my brochures, but I'm pretty sure that a front bench seat was available......

Thanks for the welcome N2TRUX. This one has the buckets and center console but I am not sure if it come with the console since it was not secured down in front, it only has bolts in the rear to hold it. I assume the factory tach cluster is a very hard one to come by?

Most are listed as 73-87 like one size fits all. That is not the case when it comes to cluster. If you are interested, we can fill you in on what fits what.... |

This is kind of funny, there are three 2wd 77 Blazer owners that have replied to this thread, plumbcut, and some funny dude with a black 77 PU.
It is '77 madness.

all this talk of the 100 mph speedo vs 85 mph speedo made me realize one thing-my 1st 78 chevy truck must have been one odd duck in that it had a 85 mph 70's style speedo.never seen a 70's model before it and never seen one since.sorry to those that may want to see proof but no i dont have any pics sorry.

maybe we are all just mad? I went forever wanting a 2wd Blazer, and now I have two. Go figure. Lovetorev, it looks like you have quite a project going there. BTW, what color is the interior? I may have some pretty decent red interior parts cheap if it is red....

If I remember correctly, the heavy duty (over 1ton) GM trucks of the 70's had a 85mph speedo which probably looked (styling wise) just like the light duty speedometers.. maybe one got swapped in..

I do have a red interior Jonboy. Send me some pics and prices and I will consider it. The interior is not in bad shape but will need addressed to get to the level of condition I want.

Mine has some fairly new carpet and the front seats have been recovered. What part of Oklahoma are you in? It may be a little while before I replace it, but I hate red interior.....

Just north of Tulsa. I could definatly use the carpet and seat covers. Mine is all there and in decent shape but I will want better soon. Mine has a few tears in the drivers seat. Let me know!
BTW how does that 700R4 do in your blazer? I also plan on lowering mine did you use spindles and springs in the front and shackles in the rear? I want to go just 2/4. I don't know if you can tell in the photo but the back already seems to be lower than the front. I plan on replacing all the body mounts and bushings so this might cure some but I don't think it will cure all. Maybe I will just lower the front so that is sets level or slightly lower and be done with it. |

The 700R4 hasn't moved yet. It is still on stands in the shop. Darn summer colds. Anyhow, before the swap, it really wanted teh other gear on the highway. I am looking forward to getting it back on the road. I drive an 87 with the 700 in it everyday, so I am guessing it will be pretty similar.
I bought the truck already lowered, so I am not sure how it was done. My plan of teh week for my 87 is a drop like you described. Of course, my plan changes constantly with that truck. When I get ready to change out the interior, I will let you know. I have a set of 88 Camaro seats I have been thinking about trying. For some reason, I thought you were in OKC, and I pass through there every so often.
