What's my gear ratio?
I have a 70 model short/stepside and I'd like to know what my gear ratio is or how I can find out. I don't like the fact that I seem to be in 3rd gear by the time I'm at 20 mph.

probablly 4.11s. Common for the 1/2 6 cylinder standard trucks. If you look at the top of the axle tube on the R/H side, there will be a set of numbers that start out with 3 letters. You may have to clean it with a wire brush to see it. The 3 letters can be crossed with a GM master parts catalog to tell you what the ratio is. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

Thanks Wes,
What's a good ratio to change too? I can just take my rear end to a shop, correct? Bryan

Yes you can take it to a rear end shop. I like 3.07s myself, but most people think that they are a little sluggish out of the hole with a small block. I'm not drag racing though...lol 3.73s are good also. I am not sure but you may have to change the carrier for those gears. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com
