Stubborn lock ring on my fuel sender; suggestions?
Hey all. If this has been covered before, I apologize. I'm working at replacing my driver's side fuel tank (1981 C1500) and I just got a complete passenger's side setup. Looks like the sending unit is the same from side to side, just pointing different directions. I've tried to move the lock ring using a brass punch and hammer but the tabs keep bending and I can't get anymore force where I need it to move the ring. Any suggestions on how to free it up?
Many thanks, Greg

Typically you have to hit each tab to break it loose.

Thanks for that....it worked.
Now I've found out that the sending unit isn't just "pointing the other way". Think I'll leave that for tomorrow. Greg

Yep, the sending unit is specific to each side. Sorry I didn't note that in my reply...
