Questions for Roots style blower owners????
I have a b&m 144 blower with teflon tipped rotors and I am currently pulling about 6-7 pounds of boost with it. I have the 2.66 upper pulley and the 6" lower pulley. questions are :
1. does the boost I am producing sound typical ? 2. instead of running 120% overdriven, to 160% overdriven, how much would I theoretically gain in boost? (trading up to a 7" lower pulley" 3 is there any place to send these in for a rebuild? I am seriously entertaining the idea of buying another like 142 or something to put on the new stroker I am building, but would like to have the other one rebuilt and for spare... |

If you over-drive your blower, you'll end up pumping a bunch of hot air into the engine. I'd recommend installing a larger blower like a 177 and keeping the same pullies. What I'd do if I was you would be to install a 6:71. I ran one with a 1:1 drive ratio and pumped around 12 psi. They sound good too, you just can't get that blower whine from a 144.

I bumped into an old rival here in phx and got a few tips from him - he is probably one of the leading experts in blowers and turbos here so I think this will help out big time. ( allready feel a difference! ) I adjusted the lock nut on the tesioner all the way out to the set pin and changed the belt to a gatorback, riched up the mixture a little and set the total timing to 32 degrees and whoa, what a difference it made! - I got on the freeway and it felt so much more powerful! - all this time the belt was slipping jsut enough to only be getting about 5 pounds of boost - I saw a meter reading of 8 when I put my foot into it - I think after the 4.56 gears are installed and I get my slicks back on I could realisticly get into the 12's with this aircraft carrier of a truck.
