Windows melting down

The mechanism inside my doors for rolling the windows up and down binds and basically acts like it's fixin' to die. I pulled the inside door panel and found there's still a wall there with only a 7" x 7" hole for accessing the window mechanism. Looks like it would be real tricky to remove the old and install a new mechanism.

How nasty a job is this?

Also the little rivet holding together the hinge on the top/side of the vent window just suddenly got real loose. Is this something I can fix with standard tools and below-average skills?

Thanx.

Re: the window mechanism, the glass could simply be binding on the old hard glass channel guide felts. Before disassembling, you may want to spray them down with silicone spray and put some white lithium grease on the mechanism and roller channels/plastic rollers.

It's tricky to R&R without having done it before. There is a certain order you have to disassmemble and reassemble. Try the grease and silicone first.

Somebody may fuss because I reference a magazine article, but get a copy of the June 2004 "Classic Trucks" magazine. There's an article in there that is specifically about rebuilding 67-72 GM Windows and Doors. They used replacment vent window assemblies, but vendors have kits that they offer to overhaul them, too. It's only money and your time.

I won't fuss, ChevLoRay. I refer back to articles all the time. That's why I keep them!
