Need Solution
Blower switch for the heater keeps heating up and frying the wires coming into it. Anyone else have this problem? Need a solution to fix this. Don't know if larger wire will do the trick or what. Right now it has 14AWG. Maybe 10?

no that wouldn't help. sounds like a short in 1 of the components. Something is pulling too much juice either the blower motor or switch. The fuse should be blowing but i had an old jeep that wouldn't blow one for the life of it. i wouldn't doubt that if you'd feel of the fuse it would be hot as well, kinda like, "DA*N, THAT'S HOT" kinda hot. Something needs to be replaced and i'm not sure it is one of the wires. Please correct me if i'm wrong, sswjout

Blower motor may be worn causing high amp draw. Brian

Hmm. Hadn't thought about the motor causing it, but guess that could be it. It is 33 years old after all. I'll replace it and see if that fixes it. Thanks, Jeff.

Well, we'll see what happens. New blower motor $16.99 at Autozone with lifetime warranty. Just got to get the new fuse box in from Jegs and then we can spark it up!!

I started to convert my non AC truck to AC. The AC controller I bought had no switch. When I put the new switch in I noticed the wiring harness I bought had a melted plug on the back. I would guess that too much current runs through the anemic wires on there for high-speed.
So I made the high-speed wire a controller to a relay. The relay gets a clean 12 volts straight from the battery through 10 gauge wire. The wire from the relay to the fan is 10 gauge. The factory, anemic wire for high-speed fan just turns the relay on.

I almost forgot - don't forget to put an in-line fuse (20 amp) in the wire from the battery.

Ya, I may have to go that route too. I want to see if replacing the motor will fix it first though. I already have a huge rats nest of wiring. I don't want to add more on and have to redo what I already have. Thanks for the suggestion though. Jeff.
