Oil Leak Has Me Puzzled!
Hi truck people: Just got my truck on the road recently (8 year resto) and I've got an oil leak (pretty decent one) coming from around the back of my intake area. But there is no evidence of the intake manifold itself leaking. The dist., valve covers, oil pressure gauge line, and everything else seem to be OK. Anyone have any ideas of something I might bee overlooking???? Doug

get some tracer dye & a black light. put dye in & run for 30 minutes. then you should be able to see excactly where it is.
the dye is about $3 & light about $13. can both be bought at NAPA. the light is made by Streamlight, ( penlight that has an LED & uses AAAA bateries)

There things. Distributor gasket, oil sending unit, or intake. My first guess would be intake. Sending units will leak on the drivers side usually. Never had a distrubutor leak but think it could if the gasket wasnt used. Valve covers will usually leak on the sides.

68C15, yes I remember now about the dye method (forgot about that one)
Mudder, it never leaked a drop before I parked it and I installed a new intake during the resto so I'm thinking I did not use enough sealant around the back of the intake (what a pain), thanks guys, Doug |
