Ce68 Update!!!
as you all know i sold the CS68 to a local here in W. Memphis, AR.
It's now time to get to the CE68! I put the Water pump timing cover and timing tab on wednesday of this week (7-21-4) I'm not sure if I'm going to or not, but the bolts for the water pump are a touch too short, i spent 30 bucks on ebay for a nice set of allen head bolts that come up a few threads too short. We'll see. heres some eye candy, mind you the intake and carb aren't mounted yet. sswj out p.s. sorry for the sorry resizing quality, i had to downsize from approx. 500kb to <100 and it didn't smooth things out. my appologizes

Well, Today I got an extra day off from work and the wifey was gone and i did nothing untill late in the day, 7.00Pm
Last week i contacted the guys i bought the bolts from and they're going to replace the water pump bolts, i should be getting them tomarrow or the next day. I installed the Intake, carb, and water neck today. Ohhhh it looks nice Getting to the 4 bolts around the Carb neck was hard - I had to go and buy some long allen wrenches for 12 bucks at walmart just to get the job done when all i needed was one 5/16" wrench. but oh well, it is worth it. Here are some pics for your viewing pleasure. tell me what you think or what mods you can see, or for those that like to photo shop, let's see something cool!! hehe sswj

More done today, tommorow she will rise!!
Today i installed the fuel pump (much easier that my step dad made it out to be), i then ran the fuel line from the pump to the inline filter to the carb, and i bolted the carb down and put the water neck on.
I was going to use rubber from the fuel pump up but found that a little difficult to do since i had to have a threaded end for the pump. Me and a guy at O'Placie's got brake line that fit perfect and i then bent it up and around - that was threapudic for some reason and i ran some rubber on the line where it goes between the alt and head so that not only it wouldn't rattle but it would help w/ heat resistance. I then bumped rubber to rubber when i slid the end of the inline filter on so that i "seemed" like it was rubber all the way down. I put some red zip strips on to mark "Danger Fire", you know for the Idiots that will ask, "what is that line there for?" and to match the Edle red. I've still got to get the two drain plugs for the block on, hook up the starter, and get the manifolds on and then drive it to the muffler shop to have the tail pipes run. prime the motor oil up and then install the distributor. and fire her up. here are some pics for your personal enjoyment: sswj

ok now i've got some questions
the first pic is the same from above and i'm thinking that this pickup may have been set up for an hei once before. Tell me what the yello and green wires go to in this picture please. now in the next picture i need to know which wires go where the yellow and green. and in the last what do i need to get the throttle rod hooked up so it'll work right. sswj

as far as the yellow and green wires...trace them to find out where they came from to find out what they are...if you are using an HEI run a wire from the IGN unfused on your fuseblock directly to the HEI...standard old female connectors will work for both spots..i bought the plastic weatherproof ones from wal fart. the pic of the carb is grainey but it should be the same as my carter comp series....there should be a little post that kinda looks like the head of a nail on the linkage...if you have the throttle cable with like a wire end to it...put it over the little post and there is a hole in the post for a cotter pin...if you go to a parts store they should have a edelbrock install kit for it which is what i bought which is a little washer you put on there and the correct cotter pin for the install...if you have the type that has a slot in the end it should just snap on to the previously mentioned post..now that i looked at that pic again they look about the perfect length to be starter wires...

do you think holding your fuel line together with wire ties instead of hose clamps is safe? ive never seen that done before.

should be safe on a stock pressure system..only 7psi or so. wouldn't be safe on injection or anything.
you can actually not put any clamp on depending on how well the hose fits...i've done it before (not that I would advise doing it though) Any reason you didn't give the motor a quick spray bomb before putting back in the truck and putting those nice stainless bolts on it? just curious - still looks pretty good, i just don't like seeing rust on the motor happy motoring

i put the zip ties on due to the fact that it was hard to remove the hose alone w/ out a clamp and i'm running stock, i just want to make sure that they don't come off w/out a real tug. I used my needle nose and really pulled them tight.
I didn't do the paint b/c i'm not a good painter and money is real real tight right now BTW I had the ram's re-studed today and the guy charged me $93 bucks, yes 93 bucks to restud and some guy over in memphis wants 250 to run just pipes, that doesn't count the mufflers - i've got some flow's i'm putting in. sswj

OK I call a few more muffler shops and i can't get anyone to put me a set of pipes on for less than 2 bills. OMG!! WTfreak? I'm fed up and agrivated so I bought a set of Dynomax headers from Advance and go to O'riles and get the collector and i'm taking my new collectors and old mufflers and some pipe and having some welder weld about a foot of pipe from the collector to the muff and then another foot or so from the muff back so i can at least run for a while. and it will only cost me about 150, IF THAT!
Anyone w/ header experience give me the heads up on the know how of what to and not to do. BTW the ramhorn manifolds are forsale. 100 plus shipping get's em to your door. these are the kind hat tilt back at the dump in the center

You will thank yourself later if you paint that engine now....it will keep it looking pretty. Drive it in the rain once and your motor will be covered with surface rust. Its worth the extra half hour or so of labor, plus it will be Chevy orange, or whatever color you desire.

Paint it. You will look back and wish you had done it. Once it gets all that rust on it, then you will have to spend waaaaaay more time getting the rust off than you would have spent spraying on a little color. But, it's your stuff.....do as you like.

Looks good....one thing though...please becareful of the glass fuel filter. They are a time bomb. dosen't take much of a whack to break it and then the fuel pouring on a hot engine is not a good thing.
