Largest Tire Size Without Modifications
Hello Guys:
What is the largest tire size (millimeters or inches) in height and width can I use with and 18" wheel on my 1972 fleetside chevy if I lowered it 2.5 inches in the front and 3 inches in the rear. I like the look of a 285/50 R18 ( 11.2' wide and 29.2" tall) for the rear and a 255/55 R18 (10" wide and 29" tall) for the front. I sure don't want my tires to scrub ![]() Thanks Guys |

The size you are thinking of will work, the 285/50s and 255/55s. I was gonna run those on mine lowered 3/5. I'm going to 20's now that are right at 30" tall and 11" wide. The tires on it now are 30" tall and 11" wide, no rubbing, no problems.

They are 15x7's with 3.5" backspacing. I actually was pushing it around on 33's on 15x10's with 3.5" backspacing with a 3/5 drop. The tires I wanta run are 275/45 or 295/40 20's on 20x9 or 20x9.5's with 4-4.5" backspacing and I don't see a problem. Nothing looks cooler than FILLED wheel wells on a lowered truck. As for the drop, I've got about 1.5" till I hit bumpstops on the front and 2" on the back.
