My new exhaust
Got my exhaust system today. For those who don't know, it's 2.5" in front of the mufflers and 3" tailpipes. Still haven't figured out why 3" dual tailpipes. Good looking system. Now all I have to do is put it in the truck. I plan on starting this weekend. It's made by Pypes Performance Exhaust. I bought it from Captkaos as he is selling them through his site now.
It comes with hangers, clamps and every thing you see in this pic. I will have to do a little cutting and fitting but with everything under the truck, it looks real good.

I am tickled about all this for sure. I've been wanting dual exhaust ever since I've had my 85. Now it's finally going to be a reality, bullet cats and all. Have I mentioned I absolutely hate emissions testing?? |

Move just a little more south and you wont have to worry with it! Then I can get you to come help with my truck! I'm sure it wont be long before we get it back though. My '78 didnt come with any of that stuff, so I still wont have to worry with it.

If I didnt have to work this weekend, I'd be glad to ride up an offer you a hand. I know all to well how it is to not be able to find help. Just like today I was wanting to fix the wood for my bed and have it ready if I get the truck over here tomorrow, but I couldnt get my stepdad out of bed. I mainly did all the engine work on my truck by myself this time. The only help I had was my friend chris who came over on the 4th to help me stick the motor/tranny in. Anymore people on here local? I'd like to get a meet together or something when I get mine a little more reliable. Brakes and exhaust will help alot!

The sniffer inspection in Cleveland County has already started. I live just across the creek from you, in Waco, and I have had two vechicles inspected since July 1. BTW, that exhaust system looks great. I'd love to see it before you have it installed. Why don't you email me at hlutz3@carolina.rr.com or give me a call, I'm in the book. North Main Street. Would like to get together with you and talk about trucks. I have two; a '77 GMC crew cab dually and an '88 C3500 single rear wheel. 454 4-speed. 'Til then, Horace Lutz |

Sweet setup Mike. I will let you know now that the X pipe will take some of the lope out of the sound. I know this first hand

I could care less about lope. All I hope for is quieter. I'm getting too old for all this noise. Blue, nothing I would love better than to be able to talk and meet with someone local who loves these trucks as much as I do. I have no one, and I mean absoluetly no one, around here. I do everything by myself. It gets so damned boring it's enough to drive you nuts. Don't get me wrong, I love to work on my truck. But a little company and shooting the breeze makes it more fun. You are right, it does suck to work on your truck alone. Hey, if you ever need any help with anything, give me a yell. I would be glad to help you. I don't know of anyone in our immediate area. There are more of us around, but in NC, they are out in the eastern part of the state. Mike |

Same to you, I run into the same problems on the S10 borads, no one around here knows how to use them I guess. I wanted to run an x-pipe on mine but I had to save a few $$ b/c I went with the 700R4. I'd like to hear it after you get it installed, all I'm going to run on mine is some 40 series flows, with turndowns, 2.5" pipe. Does he sell just the x-pipe section? Paul

It's some of their own mufflers (Pypes). I have no idea how they will sound. They do have sound clips on their site of different setups but we all know how that is. Only true tale will be my ears. If they are loud, they are coming off. I can't take it any more. I want quiet. Something about being almost 50 that makes you like quiet stuff.

Well, let me tell ya. I used to like loud stuff too. Less than a year ago, I started having ringing in my ears (tinnitus). Now it seems everything is amplified. If he still has good hearing, he's very lucky. I messed mine up with all the loud power tools and air nailers I guess (Carpenter). Don't get me wrong, I still hear decent. My right ear is a little worse, but not bad. It's just the ringing.
Paul, glad you posted your name. I felt stupid calling you Blue. Pypes sell universal x kits. They don't list any for our trucks specifically, but I'm sure they would have them since they are in the exhaust system kits. http://www.pypesexhaust.com/ Mike |

Want me to see if I can get you an x-pipe section? I am the one Swerve got his system from.

Those mandrel bends look soooo nice. What type of pipe do they use? Is it aluminized or coated? I'll go check out the site for more answers, but from here that looks killer....

I bought a 79K5 a few years back and it was missing the cats. They had just changed the laws again. It was 12 years not inspection. Everybody yanked all the emissions junk off. Then the law changed and the market was flooded with a bunch of vehciles missing the emissions gear. I got the truck ata good price and other then the cats missing the rest of the stuff was intact.
Called the Georgia Clean air force nazis and talked to a guy and he said "we really don't care about much as long as it has cats if it was supose to and all the exhust is passing through a cat and thatit passes the sniffer. So two $50 Catco Cats from Auto zone and hour to install and no problem getting the emission check. They dodn't even lift the hood here most of the time. They just lay an inductive pickup on the hood to figure out engine RPM look under it for a Cat. Now this will piss you guys off. My 88 454 powered Suburban is exempt because of the 8600lb GVWR Only car I smog is the 89 Honda and I just picked up a 86 4Runner that I have to smog.

Small world Horace. I see this is your first post. I'm guessing you been lurking about.
For sure we can get together and talk trucks. I'm over here on Old Fallston road, so I'm only about 5 or 10 minutes away. I remember it did start in Cleveland county this year. I checked the state site last year and forgot about it. I'm sure there are a lot of folks tearing up the junkyards searching for emission parts too. I take my vehicles up to Maurice's station uptown in Cherryville. If you know him, you know he's a real peculiar person. Strictly by the book. Supprised me he agreed to pass my truck with two cats. I'll give you a call on Saturday if you will be home. Mike |

Saturday sounds good
Mike, I'm guessing that Old Fallston Road is called Stage Coach Trail in Cleveland County. Right? Hwy. 182. If so, I know that road well. Got a friend who sells produce there. Sonny has a place across from old North Brook School.
Maurice? Is that beside Roger Crawley's parts place? I don't know him personally, but I do know Roger. Good place to buy parts. He knows his stuff. Saturday sounds good. Call anytime or drop over to visit. I'll be around. Thanks for answering, Horace |

I found they do have this, it is a closer version of what Mike has. You can run the pipes closer together. He is supposed to get back with me on the prices and if he has the "normal" version.
