Heater Blower motor always on
Hi,
I recently purchased a 1982 GMC 7000 (5 ton dump and 4ton HIAB crane). The interior is pretty much the same as a regular GMC pickup. The blower motor connector was disconnected, after I hooked it back up I found out why It is always on (with ignition on). Even with the fan setting at "low" and the temp slider to off. Any ideas? thanks. greg |

the fan switch on the dash may be shorted out. Try unplugging it with the blower connected and see if it stops.

That is the way they all are it always runs most people unplug it in summer. I ran a toggle switch to mine so I can switch it off and on. As far as I Know all the chevys are that way at least all the ones I have ever seen.

Could you give some instructions on wiring that toggle switch? I noticed mine did that and thought it was messed up. I was gonna start a thread but was too lazy. I'd like to shut that sucker off. It's annoying to turn the key and hear it (mine needs replacement i think cause it sounds pretty worn out.) |

its to help keep fresh air circulated since these trucks have such "great" cab sealing.
they thought we would suffocate without air coming in hahahah |

Eric is correct on this one GM though design this in on purpose, so there is always fresh air circulating in the cab for our pleasure.

The wire the you pull out from the motor in the engine compartment I just cut it and ran a switch into the cab.

i seem to have the problem of it NEVER coming on, even with a new blower motor... no matter where the switches are set to its never on.. it used to work (but only through the floor vents, it never moved from there).

My blower motor isn't always on. Am I missing something here? GM did make a "flow through" cab - if you are moving, air is pushed through the front cowl through the floor vent to the vents in the bottoms of the doors. That is why there are vents in the bottom of the doors.

My truck blower turns off If I turn it off. Had a 78 Coupe Deville that always ran if the key was on.

I think the A/C-equipped GM vehicles had them run all the time so the A/C wouldn't ice up. Or maybe so they would wear out faster & they could sell you a new one.

Mine's always on in my '76. It used to blow out the regular vents until I changed out my heater core, and now it blows out the floor vents. I don't know what I changed, but it must have been something.

My '77 (non-A/C) was an "always on" set-up. My '86, A/C truck actually turns off.
Funny, I'm not suffocating |

Yup, my '86 is the same way. The blower is off when the switch is off. Both the motor and the switch/control assembly have been replaced over the last 6 years. It's always been like this. Now, you do get some flow-through ventilation at speed, but not from the blower motor.

The fan switch is set to be "always on" for the non-A/C trucks. A/C trucks you can turn the fan off.

The fan is always on on my 76 with factory A/C. Rather annoying to say the least. I even replaced the relays. Off means off!

I haven't had my heater fan hooked up for a long time now, but my heater and defroster still work just fine. Just takes a bit longer, hehe
