Alright I have a question for those who live in the south of the U.S.

I need to know what are the prices of trucks down there. I have a guy that goes down to auctions all the time and he deals in classic cars. I just recently found out that my cab will need about 5,000$ in labor alone to fix it. I was thinking of giving him some $$$$ to get me a rust free truck that I can work on and be in better shape than mine.

I am not looking for a numbers matching show truck, I want a GOOD driver that I can still use as a truck. It is only to be driven in the summer. Also a GMC LWB is preferred. Chev will do and I can put my front clip on it.

Also probably a 69-71.

Just want to know how much I should save over the winter to get another truck for spring time.

My little 70 shortbed Chevy cost 1200. Drove it home. Needs no rust repair, no cab corners, cab supports, or rocker panels.

Two thousand dollars will get you a runner pretty much anytime around here. You just have to look for them. If you buy one that's advertised, you'll pay more. The secret is to get one sitting around here somewhere that's not being marketed.

I'd say Tx Firefighter is pretty close, but most of the ones advertised around here are a little higher. There is a descent looking '72 chevy short fleet 350/350 non air truck in town now with $2500 on the window. I paid 3000 for my '70 CST. There was a nice '68 long fleet here for $3700 a while back. Simply a descent, running, unrestored truck is usually in the $1200 to $2200 range.

i would say these guys are on the mark. for the 5 k in the cab you could get a real nice truck. i would try to find a nicer one that way there wont be alot of repairs before you can burn up the roads

Based on how I found and bought my truck... you can find a longbed truck in good condition for less money than a short bed. Around here the short beds still get more money, and they can be in the same shape as a longbed.

TX has a great point "You just have to look for them." There are a lot of daily drivers around here that have little rust... but that doesn't sound to me like that is what your friend is going to be doing… coming down and hunting for trucks. Although, I agree… the best 'deal' is going to be 'found' by hunting around... It is going to depend on the trucks at the auction.

My guess is that you'd need 3k-4k US in an auction situation, just cuz I assume the trucks at the auction would be in better than 'daily’ driver condition. I don’t know this for sure… but I know some of them are being restored just to be re-sold.

Good luck! and BTW… if your friend is going to auctions down here where there are 67-72 Chevy/GMC trucks… some of us would like to know where those auctions are too!

I just got the N Texas truck trader and there's a ton of trucks for approx $5k. All seem pretty nice. I paid $4500 for mine this spring: zero rust, cst, bb, buckets, lwb fleet, a/c, and line-x bed. I'm pretty sure you can look at all the truck trader ads nation-wide from anywhere, you may not get all the pics though...

Sounds like I may have to start looking on my own and talking to people. The amounts I said are in CAD. So basically if I can get about 5,000$ CAD at current exchange rate I am looking at about 3,800$ U.S.

The only reason I wanted a rust free truck is so that it has a good base to start with. With my cab in that bad of shape my box needing work, it's just a wonder how strong the truck really is.

So yeah a good 350/350 LWB truck, AC is not a real issue, nice, but not really an issue. I figured that LWB would be cheaper and I actually prefer it. These guys have a nice 72 they picked up about a month ago but are asking 24,000$ CAD for it, and it is a short box.

Rust free trucks cost more up there in the Great White North, eh?

Engines & Tranny's cost a goo dbit more down here. You have heavy parts & noting to put them in. We have the bodies, but less drivetrains.

Heh, I have several for sale, here in CA.

Good rust free longbeds, one GMC 1 ton and one Chevy 3/4 ton.

Both 2wd.

GMC needs an engine. Chevy needs a transmission.

Heck, I just crushed two to clear my yard a bit.

I am gonna have to go talk to that guy and see what he says. He is always looking for deals while driving around. He usually heads down to Florida in the winter too. He must have some good contacts can can get me what I want for how much I want over the winter. He actually sells all the patch panels for everythign too, since they also rebuild cars.

Here is their site. I have seen that 72 GMC short box in person, it is quite something, but short box and not to my liking, plus the 24,000$ CAD price tag, LOL.

If I had the cash and liked long bed trucks I would definitely consider this truck. Its a 72 Chevrolet that looks to be in good condition for only $4,000.

Super Chevy Show in Memphis TN (May of every year) always had 3-5 of our trucks for sale in the $4000-$6000 range already restored. You should be able to find a clean cab for less than $500 at any junk yard in the south too.

I would just post on the parts board that you're looking for a rust free truck from the USA bud. A while back Christopher, 68Suburban, had a sweet red lwb fleetside that went for under $1000 and it was a driver that was rust free!! The next 67-72 that I end up working on will be from the rust free parts of the USA. I'm not gonna play iwth rust and repairing panels anymore

Hey you do not have to count out the north on these trucks, I have found and bought 3 trucks with out any rust problems right in Maine since March of this year. Here are a few PICS. Sorry if any of the board members have already viewed the PICS, just trying to make a point!

I see longbeds with no engine for under $1000 all the time. Shortbeds are pretty expensive here, and so are 4x4s, but everything else you can find for pretty cheap.
