Whats a good engine paint? Also is it better to paint it red or just black?

Black transmits the heat better, so based on a technicality black is the best paint color for functionality, and I personally love the clean look of a flat black motor with brushed alumnium components. But red looks awesome too
Ever consider Chevy orange? Another favourite motor color of mine

Paint it black unless your truck is red or use the ole' chevy orange. I used VHT engine paint on mine. I like the way it turned out. I got some POR15 silver header paint $15.00 1/2 pint. I lasted about 2 hours then flaked off. So I painted hy headers with VHT header paint and they still look good.
just my .02

I painted my motor with some black rattle can primer, lol
Works surprisingly well too, I've had it on there for a couple of months now, and other than it turning brown around the hot air choke hole, it looks as good as the day I sprayed it.

I use Dupli Color Engine Paint 500 Degree ive never had a problem with it peeling or reaction It costs about 3.99 a can and can be bought at wal mart and vatozone and other parts houses im sure.
PlastiKote Is a brand that i reccomend staying away from I have had it flake off in the past and it doenst cover as good as the duplicolor. |

go to the local hardware store liek Ace Hardware and get flat color BBQ heat temp (usually 1000º) rattle can paint, there should be a few colors including a real nice silver, maybe green and brown and whetever else the store carries. When i redo mine i am going with the flat black with the engine compartment and firewall the GM Orange

Yeah its good quality stuff I normally pick up my engine /heads/etc from the builder after a caustic vat and just clean with B-12 and paint That dupli color seems to have great adhesion with minimal prep Ive had the same engine since 1998 and still bright chevy orange. |
