identifying carburator
hey yall, i have an eldelbrock carburator but how can i tell which one it is? i need to turn it, its on a 350. need more information? thanks

There should be a number on the front right (passenger side) mounting pad. Something like 1406-1407-1405, post that and we can tell you what it is.

i read about the air and fuel screws, but im still not for sure on how to set them, like if i screw one in more then the other |

They should both be the same amount of turns. Turning counter clockwise will enrich the idle mixture, clockwise will lean the idle mixture. This only works for the idle mixture tuning nothing else. Turn both adjustment screw in clockwise until they seat lightly, then counter clockwise 2 turns. That should get you started and you will need to tune it from there. Its nice to have a vacuum gauge and tach to help tune it.
You need to make sure the engine is timed right, idle rpm isn't to high and the choke is working properly.

i wasn't able to get mine timed but how lilbowtie expalined it is how i adjusted my carb (exact same carb as you gassucker)

ooh i see what you saying, i think i can get the 2 screws right, i dont have a tach, my friend came over hes been into these old trucks and stuff for along time, and he adjusted my ideling and got it sounded alot better and normal, i started it up today and it was like it wasnt getting enuogh gas, so i thuoght it might of been the air and fuel screws

Both of the adjustment screws meter the fuel. I have been told before one is for gas and one is for air. This is not so. The carburetor will pull all the air it needs provided there isn't a vacuum leak (unmetered air). In that case it will be running on the lean side and it will cause a lot of other annoying problems.
Did you by chance pull any of the spark plugs to look at them?

i have checked one of the spark plugs and it was good, the motor starts up every time and stuff, after he got the idle down good, we didnt have time to mess with the screws so i tried it and it didnt start like it wasnt getting enough gas, and it has plenty of gas in it. by the way my shaved door kit is in

if i remember right, one is for warm operation and the other is cold operation, so if it set for both to run well when the engine is warm, then it will act like its not getting enough gas or too much when cold.
Best bet is how Mylilbowtie explained to do it, both screws need to be equal distance in/out and also make sure your idle is set properly first with the screw on the throttle side. Also i have to touch my gas each time before turning the key to start it properly, otherwise it will do just how you explained gassucker, act liek its not getting enough gas.

hey screwball, yea no when i start it up it will run, and i go to step on the gas it will die, or try to stick it in gear and go and it will die
