Hey, if you.......
....guys don't mind, I'm gonna hang out in this section for a while!!!!!
We bought this truck today for my oldest son. He is 15 and that gives me a year to get it done!!! This truck is in great shape all things considered. The seller was the 3rd owner and it has been in a mini-storage for 11 years now. I'll be lurking on here to get ideas and I pointed out Inspector722's cab pics to my son as a "goal"!! Take care, Misled Edit: Here's an updated pic with my partner for this project!!!! Last edited by Misled; 09-18-2004 at 08:04 PM. |

The truck looks great. Does it run? It looks like a tow strap hanging off the front. My son is 15 and drools over the possibility of driving ours one day. Good luck with the truck....Kelly

I just happened to see the truck sitting at a local body shop and the front rims were on it, but the tires had been popped off.....well, it seems that the mini-storage owner had sold out and the lady that owned the truck was desperate, so she called her friend (body shop owner) to tow it there. I stopped by and expected the guy to tell me to get lost when I asked if it was for sale.....he said, "yeah, it is...my friend wants $4500.00, but the best offer she's had is $3000.00" .
Today, I met her there and she was crying as she signed the title....she admitted that she loved it, but knew she would never restore it. When I told her my plan and promised to keep her updated, it made it better. Apparently, the original owner bought it in California to tow a boat, several years later, sold it to his son, who sold it to this lady. She drove it to Ohio and after a short time, put it in storage. I'm sure it would run, but the gas tanks are very varnished and the battery is shot, so we just towed it home (a short distance). It is a factory air truck, chrome door panels, sliding rear window, and 3 fuel tanks. The ONLY rust repair I will have to do is the passenger rocker and backing plate. I was amazed at the body mounts and underneath. The frame is great and has very little surface rust. The mini-storage must have been a good one, because the chrome rims (I got all 4 of them) don't have any pitting!!! One of the big reasons I love it is it reminds me of this truck......one I sold when the kids were little (we were soooo poor then!!!!) for $800.00 with a 454 in it!!!! Anyway, I'm sure I'll be buggin' you guys as I go along!!!!! Take care, Misled |

Hey Misled, my son and I are working on one right now also, he is 14. It is a great time, we get to work together and b.s. and just have a good time. We have been down to see Teeitup in Kansas twice, bought 4 parts trucks around here and made numerous wasted trips and parts runs. Its been alot of fun and we only have the cab on so far! Enjoy and Welcome Later, Gord

Longhorn Man, The pics from that meet were good.....we'll try and make it next year!!! I was especially taken with Dean's truck...WOW!!!!! Yukon Jack, It looks like you got quite the ride going yourself!!! Yes, I do want it back. I think the guy that bought it is gonna file stalking charges on me soon. I see him about once a year and ALWAYS ask if he's ready to sell it back!!!! 72gord, Last year, I rebuilt a 1994 Z28 (see below)for my daughter and she helped me a lot........what a connecting and gratifying experience!!!!!! OK, questions.... 1. The engine codes come up good (1970, 250, 255HP, 4 bolt), but the suffix code indicates 3-speed, which is what my 69 had along with the rockwell t-case, but this 70 has a 4-speed and a 205 transfer....am I to assume the Rockwell to 205 switch happened 69 to 70 or do you think this is a swap-in?!?!?! 2. I found a great set of axles (44 "big hub" w/ discs and a 14 bolt w/ factory locker) from a 74 Chevy. Is this a bolt-in, and if not, what problems would I have. I have every intention of putting the original axles away in case we ever want to go back to stock. See, I told ya I'd be buggin' ya!!! Misled |
