Checked out truck, help figuring out sound? cash advice?

I went and looked at that 72 today. It's a solid truck, great body and frame. Only probelm is when you make a harsh turn you hear and feel a pop from the right front. My dad guesses a balljoint. Is it worth it to pay 6 grand for a nice hot rod truck that is gonna need a new exhaust and has some sotra definant problem in the front end? I was thinking about offering 5 grand, which is about 300 more than is to my name. Should I pay that much for a truck now and not have payments on a car or have payments on a car but have cash in my pocket? I have a decent job and had it for 2 years, making about 350-450 a month minumum. College is coming up and I plan to live at home. It'd take me untill senior year to get a 14 grand Mazda B3000 paid off. And I couldn't work on it.

Offer what you have. ($4700). Then just see what happens. You can always meet in the middle of the two prices. Most front end shop will look at an auto for no charge to let you know how much it will cost to fix and what kind of shape the rest of it is. Use the cost of the exhaust and front end as your means to negot. If the person is not willing to let you have it check out before hand, then I would stay away from the truck. No telling what else is there.

I have a 90 Caravan,2 71 GMC's,and the 49 in my avatar,all paid off,so I don't have that 300+ car payment every month,so I say buy a classic,and save the planet

All the cool people are doing it:p

I'm with Inspector,I'd offer the 4700.The frontend problem prolly isn't too serious.Plus it'd be way cooler than an ol Mazda

tell the guy thats all the money you have, maybe he will work with you, and also tell him you are going to college soon. never know some people might cut you a break. i am not going to be the person the pushes the gas milage thing but a newer car gets better gas milage then an older but hell i drive my 71 around all the time and it spits out raw fuel.... silly cam! and havent been able to tune it yet.... If you think you really want this truck then walk up to the guy with cash and offer him all you have..... people also change when cash is right in front of them......

Best of luck and tell us how it goes
