Respond to Kevin Lee (Classic Trucks)
I was reading my current issue of "Classic Trucks" and ran across the editors page. For those of you who don't know Kevin Lee is the editor. I have talked to him via email a couple of times and he seems to be a very cool guy.
I asked him why he didn't feature 73-87 Chevys and he said he wasn't allowed to go past the 72 cut off at that time. He also said that might change in the future. Well here's your chance to make a difference. Kevin has listed 14 questions that he asked for the readers to respond to. One of the questions is Is there an era of trucks we are not covering enough? We have stopped coverage at 72 trucks, but do you have an interest in seeing some of the mid-to-late-70's trucks featured? I think we should all send an email to Kevin and let him know our thoughts. Please keep it civil since it was not his decision to have the 72 cut off. You can reach him at- kevin.lee@primedia.com Lets load his mailbox up with positive input from the 73-87 GM truck lovers....

Thanks for the heads up, I just him an e mail as suggested. Don't know if it will help but I mentioned the write up of the sweet 87 C10 in the Oct 04 edition of Custom Classic trucks.

Custom Classic Trucks features our body style of trucks...I buy their magazine every month.
I sent Kevin an E-mail last night, also gave him a link to 73-87.com...hopefully he will find our E-mails encouraging and hopefully they will change their mind on the cut off year. The down side, our trucks are becoming more popular...and with that, the prices for NOS and quality used pieces will only rise.

I think a big reason for their popularity is that people around my age (29) grew up with these trucks. My dad bought a new one in 1974 (cooincidentally the year I was born) and had one or two the whole time I was growing up. Coupled with the fact they last forever and are relatively cheap, it's kind of a no brainer. I find that my taste in things now is what I wanted when I was a lot younger, at least as cars go. I still really want a Grand National, and an 89 Turbo TA, and cars like that. At least thats my take. I wil write a letter to the editor as well.

i would love a replica of the General Lee but those cars are a bit rare and out of my price range.. i love any of the Dodge muscle cars from the early 60s to late 70s including Cudas, SuperBees, Hemi Cuda, etc...
born 87? wow you're the same age as my (much) younger brother. i also got a reply from Kevin: Thanks for the input Mike. Looks like the message board has been busy. -----Original Message----- From: Mike [mailto:mdkzr@nospam.net] Sent: Thursday, September 23, 2004 9:00 AM To: kevin.lee@primedia.com Subject: questionairre The term classic goes beyond the year of the vehicle but in order for a proper listing of trucks, there has to be a cutoff year. My belief is that a magazine such as yours should allow for "classic" to be defined as 25 years old or older. This could be modified officially every 2-3 years to show not only newer then 72 trucks but also to allow for some styles not yet seen in your magazine to debut such as mid to late 70's trucks."

Lol. Gotta love cutting and pasting! I got the same response from Kevin Lee. I have to admit though, I did not even expect a response from him, not to mention one so soon!

I just got this from him at 1am
-------------------------------------------------------------------- No it never got finished. Looks like the later-model trucks will start getting some representation in the mag. -----Original Message----- From: Chris G. Lucas To: kevin.lee@primedia.com Sent: 9/23/2004 8:26 PM Subject: Classic Trucks Mag and 73-87chevytrucks.com Kevin, Not sure if you remember talking to me a while back from when you were working on the Chevy Truck mag. At the time you were working on a 78 with a 454. Did you ever finish it? A buddy and fellow 73-87 owner of mine Ken McAvoy told me you were with Classic Trucks and wanted feedback for the readers. He posted on my forum located at http://p210.ezboard.com/b7387chevytrucks88686 Just thought I would put that out there and hassle you about not having any 73-87 trucks in the mag. Take Care man, Hope to hear from you. Chris Lucas http://www.73-87chevytrucks.com http://www.captkaoscustoms.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------
