Mustang II Suspension
I have seen it advertised in the past but cant find it now..... I am looking for a Weld in Mustang II front suspension kit for a 72 Blazer 2wd. I have checked Heidts and TCI with no luck. I will be converting a 72 Blazer 4x4 to a 2wd and would like to use a steering system with a power rack and a bagged suspension front and back. Any help would be greatly appreciated....Thanks

I always use Fatman's MII crossmembers
EDIT: I just looked in their catalog, and they sell the bolt in type of MII crossmember for Chevy trucks.

With a setup like that would you retain the same wheel backspacing requirements and stuff? What are the main advantages to a setup like that if you are not going to bags?

the price is $929 for the bolt in x member. it includes tubular upper control arms and narrows front wheel track about 2".

Give Ed at Mothertruckers a call. He's a authorized dealer. I bet he can get you a bette price than buying direct. You will definately be happy with their stuff. I got the "Stage III" which is the polished tubular a-arms and coil overs.

What is the main benefit to doing this? Just better suspension or for better brake options?

Better suspension which translates to a lot better handling. Weight savings with those of us with trucks on a diet. Easist way to add rack and pinion steering.

I honestly can't think of any advantage, the original suspension rides like a Caddy. I used MustangII on my '30 Chevy because it was an easy way to get rid of the straight axle but it doesn't handle half as good as my truck.

I have looked at the mustang II also, & have to say it looks slicker n chit, & will shave a little nose weight on a racer....but for the bucks, & dont see the advantage on a street bound truck. I run a cut coil drop on my longhorn, & a set of handmade shock relocater brackets, & stock replacement shocks(Monroe)....nothing trick at all. I have had several guys ride in that old truck, & comment on how nice it rides....I am old school , & really can see changing what "works"(or cant afford to !) best of luck,crazyL

I'm using it to replace the front suspension on a 72 4x4 Blazer and doing a four link on the back. Don't want a 4wd Blazer. 2wd is more to my liking.

Randy, it might. Some say yes, others say no. I'm gonna bag it and use the polished a-arms etc. This one is gonna get driven every now and again but not daily. It will give me enough room to take the family along if they want to go to car shows with me. I'll use a Ford 9" with a 4 link. Right now, I'm looking at going with a 502 Ramjet. Gonna have to talk to Fatman Engineering and ask about weight issues with a big block. If there is a problem with too much weight on their crossmember, I think I will go with a LS-1.
