Can you post or send a pic? In 73 the pickups were a larger diameter than the vans. The bracket is held to the column with weld nuts.

You may need to take some more pics. I can't see anything there.

Are you sure about the 83 part? It looks to be a 72 - 81 (and early 82) van column.
There is no ignition witch, which was introduced in the vans in 82, and trucks in 73. |

You're right, he did say 73.
I see the ignition switch now. How did you wire it up, and what did you need to do to make the huge column fit in there? |

so it is a truck column? it was in there when i bought the truck, i'm not sure how he did it, but he wasnt planning on using the column shifter because as you can see in the pic there is a floor shifter in there, but i have since removed the center console and floor shifter and now i am going to use the column to shift. do you think i will have some problems in doing this? i havent really checked out the column internals yet.

I have one like it in mine. You have to grind the cluster opening larger. Also have to cut the column shroud shorter. Get the adapter from a local gm dealer. Its not as good as a van column though. Still has the key(so now I have two ign switches) In my opinion the only benefit is the tilt.
