Gold coating
How do I achieve this gold coating/plating? Does Eastwood, or someone else sell something to do it, or is it anodized, or ????

Here is the link. Id does not describe the process further than "3 step process". Would guess it comes with better instructions.... Kinda spendy though.

Any decent electroplater can do that for you. I believe that is zinc dichromate.

Chickenwing- OK, thanks. I have several parts that I want to do, so I may try it. Has anyone here tried it?
Stingray- I don't know of any nearby, but I will look. Thanks

Luckily we have several "platers" in this area and they are generally pretty accomodating on "small-jobs" for "hobbyists". Check in the phone book for large volume platers and they most likely can help you. Zinc Dicromate is common plating.

I think the original finish is cadium plating with an additive that gives it the gold color. The kit from Eastwood is a paint kit that will come close to duplicating the look of the cad plating. I've seen some parts painted with the Eastwood kit and they looked good but the finish will not hold up very long when exposed to the brake fluid.
The waste products used in cad plating are tightly regulated and with the exeption of some military and aircraft use it's been replaced with different types of Zinc coatings. You might take a look at this kit and see if it's something you would be interested in. http://www.caswellplating.com/kits/zinc.htm

Hugger - we have several in Jackson, MS. Not that this is close to you, but if you had a bunch of stuff to do, it could make a trip worth while. Hey maybe I'll buy some of your stuff and make a drop off for you later this winter.

Hell if I can find them. I've only found one yard with them and most of them are already parted out. there's a few decent fenders and a few sets of doors, but nothing aside from body panels in decent shape. I'm going to go back one last time this winter when the wasps and hornets are dead to see what's left. Who knows, maybe I'll get a whole truck and start another project!! HA
