Does A.............
steering shaft from a non-tilt steering column fit into a tilt steering column without alot of modifications or is it a put it it and go type deal?reason i ask is when me and a buddy put the steering wheel i bought from rage n rat into my truck the other day well the truck wheel didnt want to come out to easily at first-the nut stripped and galled the threads.so we used a die to recut the threads but my friends tap and die set is a cheap one and frankly sucks so while it cut the new threads its not the prettiest job and i fear it may have damaged the shaft beyond the point of repair and i have another column that i can take the shaft from but its a non-tilt and i have tilt in my truck so i need to know for knowledge's sake more than anything if it will work and has anyone done this type of swap before.

I doub't it'll work. A tilt column steering shaft is actually a two peice shaft with a u-joint in it so you can steer no matter what angle the column is at, while a non-tilt column has a straight through design (as far as I know) If you are good at welding, I guess you could probally hack saw the top off both columns and weld the non-tilt column's top in...

i was actually talking about this with my dad last night and he told me the same thing about the shaft having a u-joint in it.so i know now it wont work so i guess i either have to get it checked out to see if the shaft is toast and if so its either get the tilt fixed or go back to a non-tilt column which i would rather not do-the tilt steering has kinda grown on me.

I think I might have the part you need here, in a trashed column that was in my truck when I got it. I'll have to check and make sure that it isn't stripped either...

Sorry, been busy with a motor swap tonight -- I'll take a look after I get the new 350 fired up later on tonight...
