Cracked Valve cover
Yeah so I cracked a valve cover while tightening it down. I'm looking for just some replacements, nothing too fancy.
The driver side cover has what I called a heat sink on it, the tube that runs from a hole in the rear of the cover to the air filter assembly. I cant find any on eBay that are this way. Do I really need to keep this there or can it be left out. I'd take just a plain jane replacement if I could find one.

Most covers designed to fit your engine should have a hole in the same general area and should be available at your local parts store or salvage yard. It is most likely for ventilating your crankcase so I would put it back as it is.

You do need to keep that vent hose, it is for clean fresh air to enter the engine so the PCV on the other side can do it's job to remove the acidic/contaminated air in the engine crank case.

Can you just use the after market covers with one hole on each side but istead of that hose, use a ventilated cap?

As long as it is vented, yes. I use a breather for an oil cap on my rig. (At least, before I broke the block anyways) In reality though, you are better off with the hose to the air cleaner. Some states will require it since it is an emissions controll device, and plus it is just a good idea to have clean filtered air in the motor instead of the dirty crappy air that is kicked up fromyour tires on a dirt road.
