voting for the unofficial POSoTM Oct 04
Voting for the unofficial POSoTM for october. I am attaching the poll to the original thread to make things a little less confusing. Good luck to all the nominees, we surely have a bunch of POS on the board ( I wish my POS looked half as good as most of these! )

- Burnt valves - Hole in the rad fixed with a bit gob of solder - Holes in the box side big enough for you to stick your head through - Holes in the secondary fuel tank - Box is so rusted, that if you step on the bare metal and miss the crossmember, you'll fall through - Box is held down by a long strip of flat iron with holes drilled into it that correspond with the box bolt holes on the fram - Truck was used to haul a 20 000 lbs trailer off the rear bumper, so the bumper is bowed and beat to crap - Front driver's side frame rail is bent after a towing accident (anyone think of a ricer that got stuck in the snow and had his rear end pulled off? Think of the same thing, but on my truck's front bumper...) - Big crack behind the steering box, cause by spoken towing accident - After two years, I am STILL finding live ammuntion in my cab, lol - Had holes in the roof under the clearance lights, so the truck leaked something horrible - Heater fan makes a nasty howling noise - 14 bolt Rear end is about to break - Driveshaft isn't balanced, so the thing rattles and shakes at anything over 50 mph - Front end has nasty wheel hop when you are taking gradual curves on the highway - Tires all have flat spots on them, so when you are going through a school zone, it looks like you have airbags as all four corners of the truck bounce in a pattern at different times I've even fixed most of the rest of the peice of crappiness of it already I can get more pictures if wanted :p

Hoss
Sorry this is late but I could not get pics together.
Mine is an 81 C10 that I bought 2 1/2 years ago. It has a 305 that runs as long as you have a 50 gallon drum of 10w30 in the bed. Its leaks like a sponge. The truck will drive just fine if you don't go over 2 miles from home then watch out. Truck will die whenever he wants to.. no time is too good for Hoss to decide to do this. It has the original 305 with a 350 trans (I think its a 350 anyway.) Brakes hoses are holding on with rust..cant get them off. Has major bed damage from a runaway trailer that rammed it. I have replaced the alternator twice, A/C blower motor twice. A man ran out it front of me a year ago so I had to replace the front clip. the front bumper is the wrong year so there are no front turn signals. The front headlight bezels are missing giving Hoss that "Goth" look. The interior is the best part of Hoss.. the dash looks as though rats were living there for quite awhile. the carpet on the drivers side is missing from rotting out because of the leak coming from under the dash during any rain activity. The glovebox is also gone.(well.. its in the floor) The 007 smoke screen was an option on 81's I believe and Hoss uses it whenever he sees a policeman or somebody driving an electric hybrid. Hoss loves to mess with these types of people to enrage them as much as possible. Hoss is a mess but one day he hopes to return to his former glory (whatever that was) The Purple pic is what I want it to look like... someday.....Thanks again to Zumo for the PS Last edited by BillGent; 10-12-2004 at 11:27 PM. |

Here is my POS. The fuel system leaks, all the tires have fix a flat in them and with the drivers door (off of a 67) closed you can stick your fingers outside thru the door and door frame. I've taken a 1/2" or so of bondo from the drivers side of the bed and still have more in there. Both front and rear bumpers are all bent up.

OK, here it is.
Notice the perfect alignment of the wheels in the wheel wells. The chassis lengt was altered bt the PO. I'm not quite sure where he was going with it Engine is a 350 with TH350. Will be a 383 with 700R4. It is Hot wired to run now. Steering column is a temp. hooked up early 70s caddy tilt/tele. Chassis is a 71-72, will be a S10 or other 4wd/AWD. The beautiful interior work is provided by parts that have been collected. Long way to go! |

Here is my 59 chev that I have had for 18 yrs.
I have dismantled it completely over that period of time and still have almost ever bolt. It sits on a 77 blazer frame I have a 454 that is/was (cause my ideas for change daily) going to go in it. The box is now my utility trailor for my quad. The truck was my dads when he was a kid. He put a 55 front clip and a sb in it.

eh y not? i get told mine is a POS all the time, well the paint is factory 20 year old crap that looks as dull as the rust on the titanic, my driver window regulator is FUBAR we tried to take it out but made it worse, you can only move the window maybe 1/2 inch and thats by grabbing the window and pushing or pulling at it, the carpet has some very funky stains in it, all the interior plastics were spray painted with black spray paint, i have no ac, due to no lines. the truck got backed into soemthing bad and frame is bent, so the cab doesn't line up with the bed. the cab is also bent from me running into a telephone pole. the paint is peeling bad and spray paint is this trucks best friend, the body has soem rust, mainly has little holes in it, it will be beatifull one day money permiting!

I had to vote for 1972c10. Some of the trucks were too nice to be considered a real POS. I'm sure the owners have had an occassion to argue that point.
There were others that were sadder looking POS's, but they didn't appear to be running so they don't really count. Maybe we should have a "long term project/yard decoration" contest for those trucks....

It's really not that bad!
It's a 1970 GMC 3/4 ton. It has spent it's life in the Canadian subarctic, where salt is never used. It's had a tough life but the cab and front clip are in almost rust free shape!
Now I just need to find a short bed frame to bolt them too! Does it help if I mention that it ran when parked! Engine seized!

here she is as of today...no transfer case in her yet, and the transmission output shaft is toast. The starter took a crap too. Also, last winter's cold caused the windshield to crack around a rock chip, so that needs replaced too.
The pass. side rear tire went flat so we put on the spare (which was also flat, and all 5 of these are split rims too ), so right now there is a jack stand behind the backing plate holding it up, and we left the tire quasi-bolted on so as not to lose the lugs, it isnt flush with the drum so it takes a drunken lean (hard to see in pics). Driveshafts are in the bed under the tarp, along with the old Rockwell T221 transfer case and my spare SM465, and some other misc crap. On top of the tarp are lumber scraps, loading ramps, a picnic table bench, what appears to be a pitcher, and a dolly used to move my axle, transfer case, and transmission collection around with. inside the cab is a milk crate (its twin is underneath the truck), along with my self inflating camping mattress (aka what I lay on under the truck), two old Public Address suitcase systems that I picked out of a dumpster, some rags, an empty can or Barq's root beer, and my NP205. I think there is a toolbox in there too, and some other misc trash. Oh, the high hump cover is there too, under the mattress, and you can kinda see its hole in the floor. My bench seat is in the barn, most likely reeking of cat piss. I have big plans for this truck...but no money. :-( There is a Dodge Dana 60 front axle in the garage just begging to be put in, but of course it too needs rebuilt.

As for why my truck is a POS - Lol, just look at it! I think it's pretty self explanatory. I have decided that it will see the road again though.
