Freebie score

A guy at work has a buddy that is giving me a complete 72 frame, stripped cab, bed, doors, 3 spd, cherry inner and outer grille as well as the radiator support, and misc parts that are in the bed. I just have to haul it off. I can take my time and clean it up, paint it, and then roll it under my 69. I was wondering if the rearend from my 69 would accept the 72 axles or not? I think that I have a 3.08 and if I remember correctly the 3 spd trucks had lower gears.? Another thing are the manual and auto crossmembers different? Thanks for all of the great information.

i think the 72 axels are a hair shorter, and yes manual and auto x members are different

The 72 is wider than a 69... 3/8 inch per side if memory serves. Even with the manual tranny, it could have the 3.07 gears you want...but you are right in the chances being slim.
The manual tranny is totally different than an automatic cross member.
Pretty sweet...upgrade to disc, good frame, lots of parts....that is a pretty good score.

If the frame is wider then would the body fit right or need some modifacations?

The frame it's self is the same...as is the body mounts...just the track width is a tad wider.

I'll have to keep my fingers crossed on the gear ratio. Are the 3 spd's worth anything? I can use the rally's that are on it to move it but I have to return them. I am going to need some wheels and tires to move this frame around.

lol...not an idiot.
just remember 99% of the time, adding disc brakes will widen the track width. I learned this with a rear disc swap on a car I used to have, and didn't realize it untill the side walls of my rear tires were getting cut on every bump.
