installing a stock tach with H.E.I.
ok. i hear tell that a stock tach won't work with a hei because of the higher voltage!!!!!!
be that it may !!!!! here's what i would like to do....... install a resistor in line on the 12 volt wire feeding my TACH from the hei....so i can run a stock tach...... this is the resistor i would like to use....... Kinda defeats the point of installing a high energy ignition if you ask me... I'd put the voltage regulator between the tach and HEI if possible...

mark that hei needs the full 12 volts to work properly you cannot run it on the 9 volts after that resister

i would tend to think a resister between the hei and tach would screw up the tach signal and make it read improperly

We have been running stock tachs with HEI on (11) vehicles, (7 trucks and 4 cars) for years with no problems. My son sold his 71 Chevelle which has the stock tach/HEI setup and it was the oldest installation that we had, (14 years and still working).

Thats why GM put the tach terminal on an HEI....so they wouldn't have to come up with a different tach for the millions of vehicles that have them....look at any vehicle in 74 and then in 75 after they changed to HEI....same tach

You got yourself a hold of some darn bull crap info....Stock dash with stock Tach works fine with an HEI dist. No resistor, no nothing.....just the wire to hooooook it up.
