Lowering rear of Suburban?
I was looking at the rear axle and frame of my Sub (77 1/2-ton/454/TH400/12-bolt) and was wondering what method works best for dropping the rear end. The Sub frame has a body mount where I think a c-notch would want to go, but I'm just not sure. Basically, I guess I'm asking if there are methods that *don't* work on a Suburban rear end.
So how did you guys do it? Thanks

I used an axle flip kit and had the springs de-arched and used the stock hangers on my '88 burb...I bought a truck hanger/shackle kit but the hanger wouldn't work because it interfered with the body mount. It's all coming off here pretty quick though, I've got all my bags stuff together...

Sorry, but just to clarify, did you use a c-notch, who made it, and how was the fit?
The reason I ask all this is that my springs are 8-leaf and are basically flat (no arch left). There looks to be no room for an axle flip even with a c-notch, but maybe that's the way it goes...

I didn't use a notch and I think I've got like 3" or so of travel up before the axle smacks the frame (takes a pretty good bump to bottom out) I also used an overload spring (can't remember the name of the kit) when I lowered it, I think that helps me out alot and it rides great. I'm not exactly sure what to tell you about yours...I will be getting rid of my springs and flip kit in the near future (as soon as I get the garage cleaned out the burbs going in for bags) if you are interested in the parts let me know. I'm guessing if you wanted you could use a bolt in notch like this one...
Suicide Doors C-Notch If I remember correctly there isn't anything in the way to install it...I'll crawl under the burb tomorrow and double check...

Thanks for the info. Do you mean you used an add-a-leaf in your spring pack, or a flat, thick overload leaf that goes on the very bottom of the pack? I was thinking about getting some "standard" rear suburban springs and swapping them out. That c-notch is sweet, I'll keep that in mind, but if I can do it without a notch, even better. Let me know when you want to get rid of your parts, I may need them....

i also have a flip kit but with hangars also, i have about 2 or 3 inches to frame , i guess my springs are shots cause it doesnt take much to bottom out the axle on the frame.
