Original Trim question

I have a 72 cheyenne that still has the origional trim on the sides. However, I'm pretty sure that the tailgate isnt the origional (along with some other parts ). It has "Chevrolet" embedded into it. Isnt it suppost to have the woodgrain trim on the tailgait too? Which years and models are suppost to have the trim and which have the embedded letters?

Yes it should have a tailgate band, but the lack of it does not mean the TG is not original to the truck All tailgates had CHEVROLET (or GMC) stamped in them, the band was screwed on over it. One clue would be if there are small screw holes around the area stamped. That would indicate it had a band as well. It should also have upper and lower trim as well and if that trim is missing too there will be large holes drilled for where the clips should be.
