Rust inside above windshield?

On my new truck I am begining to notice some rust coming through, mostly on the drivers side, just above the windshield. Is this common. What can be done to fix it? Why did it start?

Ben

It starts when the driprail seal fails, allowing water to get inside the cab and collect above the windshield. My truck has it very bad, if i hit a bump hard enough i get rust flakes on my lap. Mine also has it above the BACK glass....proably one of the few to get it that bad. I can also jamb a screwdriver through it in a few places. It can be fixed with a patch panel available from any of the vendors listed on the main page, but will require some welding/metalwork. If it is too bad, look for a new cab. That is what i am going to do when bodywork becomes a priorty on my truck.

Yeah, guess i'm not the only one. Embarassing when i would carry passengers and rust would fall on their laps Oh well.....i've got a family member with a '70 GMC C20 who will sell the truck to me for a great price when i'm ready. Cab is as close to perfect as i've seen in a non-restored truck, and will find its place on my truck

Mine was rusted inside the cab above the windshield too! The metal behind the rear view mirror was very weak too. Had a shop pull the windshield, blast the metal, weld patches paint , etc... Looks good now! I would recommend pulling the windshield, repair the problem before it gets worse.
