Question price check please

me and the brother inlaw were thinking about picking up a truck to part out. the guy wants $ 700.00 for the truck. Anyway we will be using a few parts off the truck to build ours, but there will be stuff left over. So I was wondering if it would be worth our wild to part out the rest to help with some of the cost.

it is a 1971 GMC sierra 1/2 ton auto

we will be using mostly the interior parts, but the rest is well not needed at this time. Could I get the going prices for the following items.

1. hood in really good condition
2. fenders are straight, no rust
3. long bed box
4. has 3 tanks don't need them
5. doors complete
6. cab + glass

Anyway i am just trying to get me an idea of what the going prices are for these parts ! If anyone could help out that would be great

Thanks for your time Landon

Let's be totally frank here.

All the parts you listed are big and cumbersome (read hard to ship).

Your best hope of selling them is local to you.

I mean, do you really want to ship a 75 dollar fender to Timbuktu?

Every time I've posted something like that for sale, I get gobs of folks interested, but no one wants to pay shipping when it gets down to it.

I'm not trying to be a wet blanket here, just trying to make sure you're not getting into something you can't get out of without losing money.

My $ .02 here, and probably not worth even that.

As mentioned, big stuff requires a local buyer or shipping is a big pain in the butt. Locally here, Hoods bring maybe $30 , good doors $ 100 , LWB bed $ 150--350 , fenders $ 75 , cab $ 250-500. Now this assumes that any rust is surface stuff easily sanded off and only minor dents. Any rust through or significant dents-----might be lucky to get half of the above. Tailgates if original and straight can bring $ 175 and up. If like new I've sen them go $4-500. Now the caviot----GMC unique stuff does not bring the same prices as Chev due to the lower demand so keep that in mind. EXCEPTION--A great GMC Grill and the trim on the fender edge can bring more then Chev but it's got to be excellent for the premium. Hope this helps in your decision. I've always used a simple exercise in your case---@ $700. if the truck has most options (V8, auto, PS, PDB, Air with decent body) you can make out parting it out if you don't mind the work involved but keep in mind, I don't know anyone who can make a living at it even with $5. hour labor so if you can get the parts pieces you need for you project, unload the rest as quick as you can but keep spares or unique stuff as you will need them (wiper motor, dash wiring harness, overload springs, sway bar, etc.) Good luck---PS --GMC are usually leaf spring rear verses Chev usually coil. Check the rear for posi!!!

Landon, Huch is pretty much right on his pricing and as they said, big stuff SUCKS to ship, I've shipped tailgates and grills, thats the biggest Fed Ex would ship, they aren't easy to box and it takes time doing it and sometimes they still get damaged. Hopefully if you buy it you can sell stuff locally of someone is close enough to drive to get it. Good luck, Randy
