tranny rebuild
my tranny is in need of a rebuilding. How much am i looking at to get it rebuilt. It is a 350 tranny in a 4x4 72 chevy 1/2 ton.

I just got my 400 trubo rebuilt and that was $750. But I am in California.

350's and 400's are rebuilt here in Illinois for about $400-$450. This is through a guy who does it out of his garage. I don't think the professional shops charge much more than that if you bring them the tranny out of the vehicle.

I just had my 350 tranny rebuilt for right at $500 with new torque converter.Paid cash,so he did't charge me sales tax.

I use a well known shop called Phoenix Transmissions. They're the guys who built the trans for that magazine project, Old School, in last months Classic Trucks Magazine, and they have ads in pretty much all the big car magazines.
A full rebuild and upgrade is about 800 bucks. That includes a custom built torque converter and tons of upgrades. Also gets you a 3yr unlimited warranty. My last one was 795 carry out. No labor to R&R it in that price. A garage rebuild by a local guy usually runs about 300 bucks nowdays.
