Lower radiator hose fitment problem
Because of the body lift I had to do, I am having trouble getting a radiator hose to fit from the water pump to the lower radiator outlet.
As you can see, I need a hose with a pretty radical bend at the pump. Spent some time at the auto parts store and nothing looked like it would work off their shelf. I know there are aftermarket flexible hoses - anyone know if they can do bends such as what I am needing? Here is a view looking straight towards the engine And here is a view looking from the top of the radiator down. The hose I have cannot make the bend without starting to collapse. Also considered using a metal sleeve to put a couple hoses together but remembered a post recommending only using a certain type of metal tubing for the sleeve - anyone have a recommendation if I go this route?

get a flexible hose from auto zone thats what i did on my v8 s10 you can bend the sh!t out of them without collapsing it

I also use the flexible lower hose. It has a coil spring inside to keep it from collapsing. Never had any problems. From the looks of what you are trying to do it should work fine.

I had to buy a lower hose for a small block 4x4 from 72 to get it to fit right with my engine set back in the I6 posiiton. It has the exact kind of bend to it as yours

on my 67 , I put in a newer 305, with a longer pump, and the lower rad outlet was straight, not angled like the original. After much frustration and many many trips to the parts guy , I eneded up with a hose for a mid 70's truck, It is a Dayco #70735, length code E. when I installed it it bent & collapsed. I "borrowed" a hose off a buddies in progress truck, and it was the same, only shorter. So I trimmed a bit off the ends and it fits no problem. Just remember, if you cut 'em, you own 'em. I've also heard flexy hoses put a lot of stress on your rad outlet connections. Hope this helps.

Yukon, the angle on the waterpump is a lot like the later style(long) sb pump. my thoughts are along the same lines as Purple Gas.....use a 73 up style hose. You will need a straight neck in the bottom of the radiator to fit the hose tho..... crazyL

Use a short sstraight piece off the water pump-get a pre bent piece of exhaust pipe from a muffler shop to connect the two hoses-many clamps, but no collapsed bends!

like someone has already mentioned try a 73 to 77 hose, you get the extra bend for the frame. worked for me.

After work, but before some of the rest of the above posts, I stopped at another parts store and did some looking through their selection. Still nothing looked like it would work, the body lift is causing the majority of the problem.
Ended up buying another hose with a 90 degree bend and splicing the two hoses together is perfect. My stock upper radiator hose used the pipe in the middle but I remember a post or two where people said not to use just exhaust pipe for a splice. Some stated, like 3 on the tree, that you could use exhaust pipe. I know the inside of the stock pipe that was in my upper radiator hose had a bit of corrosion in it. Should I try to get a short piece of stainless to use for the splice, it just needs to be a straight piece, no bends - or is regular exhaust fine? I am using an aluminum water pump if that plays into what type of pipe I should use.

I did the stare at the wall with all the hoses for my bb install. Ended up with a gates 20694. I don't know if I had to cut any off but by your pictures it looks like it will work for you. I think I'd find one that fits correctly that way you won't have to worry about splicers or any other problems.

The pipe that is stock on the upper hose of my K15 350cid is just aluminized pipe(exhaust tubing) I still have the original pipe in there and its just starting to show some signs of wear. Thats 34 years old. I have now opted to run a molded hose and had to sort through bout a dozen before I got one to fit, I think that the description was for a D****E but I wont tell anyone.
The lower hose that I finally searched for looks like it may also work in your spot. I can look up the no when I hit the shop tomm if you like. If your local parts store carries dayco I can also cross the Goodyear nos to Dayco.

Gator70 - if you get the chance to post the number and the cross if that is no problem for you. I will take all of the above numbers and do some more looking and if that doesn't work, I will go with the spliced one.

Yukon Jack, are the ends you need 1 3/4 for the rad and pump?? Does your rad outlet come straight out or angle up. Im workin on the x-reference, lost our book.

Yep, both ends are 1 3/4". The rad outlet angles up. Here is a pic I took of the two hoses that when cut and spliced together, work perfect. Thanks.

Hey Yukon Jack, looking at your picture Goodyear no. 60709 should be the fit. Sorry cant find the x-ref for dayco. even their website has the interchance blanked out.
Hope this helps some The 60709 measures 9 in from the outlet to the bend, from the same axis of the bend it then measures 12 in to the wp conn. toward the wp connection it makes a 22 deg?? bend upward. sorry dont have a digi cam to send you a pic of this hose. The hose matches up to 95/96 Ford p/u with 4.9 L6 lower hose (alternate) the other hose that is listed matches that Dayco 70664 that you have. I looked it up in a dayco cat. and the lower hose only has one listed a 71873. Goodyear shows the 2 hoses, Dayco only showed one.
