Gas gauge still not working
I still have not figured out why the gauge reads 1/8 . I recently installed a new sending unit and new wire to the fuse block. We took the truck to the gas station yesterday and filled it. I know the gauge is good because when I pulled the connector off the fuel terminal and plugged it into the terminal below it the needle shot up way past full. I'm open to any suggestions on what to look for.

You need to change the white ceramic resistor on back of gauge. Check here:

jhow66, the weird thing is when I first tested this cluster before it was finally installed, the gas gauge worked perfect.

If the gauge needle remains stuck in one place, try turning the ignition switch off and on several times in succession. This will allow you to determine if it is the dash gauge or the tank sending unit that is defective. If turning the ignition switch off and on (a half-dozen times is a good test) does not seem to help, and you've verified that the dash gauge is receiving power, try the following troubleshooting steps:
theres a few more examles on this link maybe itll help.. jeff http://www.chevytrucks.org/tech/gasgauge.htm |

C10 did you have the printed circuit off? It takes very little to cause a open circuit in the resistor because of their age. You can test it with a ohm meter by removing the printed circuit off the two post. If it shows nothing replace it.

jef5150- thanks for that link. I will try those things this weekend.
jhow66- I never touched the printed circuit. I do have some other gas gauges I could try as well. I appreciate the help guys. Thanks

Sometimes these things go bad just sitting,Sounds to me like the gauge is bad.
