another 350 to 454 swap question
just out looking at my 70 and noticed the clutch linkage that goes from the frame to the block.will this still work for the 454?

The one ton I just bought had a big block with headers and an SM465. PO pulled the 427 and I noticed the linkeage through the fire wall had been modified. But the z bar was in the correct location.

1970 K25, 8' stepside bed 350/465/205 44 up front, 60 in the rear 4.10s rolling on 33" Dunlop MTs 1986 K5, 350/465/208 Dana 60/14 bolt from a cucv 36" Super Swampers TSL/SX 1983 K20 w/ CUCV axles, 350/700R4/208 sitting on 37" Goodyears 1986 M1031 6.2 diesel, TH400/NP205 locker in the rear and a LS in the front, all stock for now..... 1986 K30, 350/400/205 dana 60 and 14 bolt. I kept the drivetrain. Body/bad and chassis are gone. 1981 K30, 350/465/205 dana 60 and dually 14 bolt. Has a G80, and a flat bed. Going to replace the flat bed. 1985 K20, 350/400/208 10 bolt and SF 14 bolt. I wonder where I can find some 1 tons. Hmmmmm |

heya jim,does that mean it bolts to the same location of the block as the small block?

I'm going to say yes as the guy had the 427 sitting on the 350 mounts/stands.

I was trying to find out the samthing and jerry moss told me that it wont and you have to make a new spot for it to mount.

i had my buddy at the chevrolet dealership look up the z bar for those years and it says one number for all engines.

It's not the z-bar that's differnet between engines, it the length of the rod from clutch pedal to z-bar determined by the frame location of the z-bar bracket, the location of which is determined by the original engine installed. IIRC, 6 cyl have different bracket locations. Yup, come to think of it, I've seen a few wrecked 67-72 6 cyl trucks with the z-bar bracket mounted father forward.

You must make sure the block has the hole up front of the oil filter, to spin in the ball for the z-bar. My new 2004 454 I had built by chevrolet didn't have the hole so I had to go with a new 63-67 corvette style set up that skog and dickie sell. Hope this helps.

i did notice when i put the big block frame towers in there are no bolt holes already drilled at the bottom.the top lines up fine.
