Exhaust Manifold question

In order to fix a goof up that the muffler shop made (long story) I need to know on the passenger side how much will I be able to move the exhaust pipe if I remove the exhaust manifold from the head?

A pretty good bit. More if you disconnect the first hanger. Make sure you disconnect the battery, good chance you will arc the starter lug otherwise. Should be able to slide a gasket in and out no problem. I take it your mating surfaces were recently cleaned?

Thanks chickenwing. I am about to fix a mess up that the muffler shop made. I have a clicking at the passenger side exhaust flange. I am thinking I have a busted donut in there. How much room would you guess I have 2 inches maybe 3?

Wait a second, I thought you said you were removing the manifold. Now sounds like you are talkin head-pipe. Can be pretty darn hard to remove and replace the head-pipe doughnut without unbolting the manifold. I've done it with mine but I had aftermarket exhaust with pretty long hangers. Studs in the bottom of the manifold get in the way. Unbolt head-pipe first to see if you can do it. If ya can't go ahead and remove the manifold. Better yet, take it to the shop that screwed it up and make THEM fix it. I've got a story there but I'll save ya from it.
