Hydro clutch setup advise needed
after 2 back surgeries really need to go to a hydraulic clutch behind my bigblock. surely someone has done this allready for a 72 4x4. probably go back to a nv4500 at the same time now that gas is so cheap. any help out there...........

8mag, I don't really have anything to offor on your clutch problem, except to say, 88 and up trucks used hydraulic. FWIW.
What I wanted to know was, will you please post some pictures of your 1 ton 4x4 dually? I'd sure appreciate it.

I'm using a hydroboost master brake setup and hydraulic clutch out of a 1989 1 ton in my 69 4x4. Here are some pics. I used the engine from the same vehicle so I didn't have to find a way to attach the slave cylidner to the bellhousing. Someone either here or over at www.coloradok5.com has attached one to a normal bellhousing.
Since the brake setup is pretty heavy it was suggested that I reinforce the firewall. Buddy made me the aluminum plate that you see in the pics. The hydraulic clutch master is angled incorrectly so I had another friend make me the shim you see. This shim gets the master pointed correctly. Then I cut off the existing end on the master's rod, threaded it and added a clevis rod end to it. Took a bit of work to get the throw correct on the pedal so I had sufficient movement but no binding. Truck is ever so close to being ready to fire up, but hasn't been driven yet so I can't report on the improvement. This pic shows the brake rod end but the one on the clutch rod is the same type. Happy to help with any specific questions.

McCloud makes a setup with a hydraulic throwout bearing. Summit carries it. One of my Buddies used it in his 55' Belaire and it's slick. Way easier than trying to piece a system together. He is running an LS-1 and a Muncie. Check it out. You won't be dissapointed.

The hydraulic clutch started in '85. I would just look for a parts truck.
I have heard of people with 4x4s having trouble with the internal setup.

I have a running hydraulic clutch on my 72 2x4 1/2ton. I is out of a 96 1/2 ton. Includes hyd throwout bearing. Trans does not accept a mechanical drive speedo setup. I was expecting a soft/easy clutch pedal---didn't get it. My 72Blazer 4x4 has a softer/easier clutch. I set up the clutch master cylinder on the inner side of the brake booster verses the outer. No Z bar to deal with. No sure I wouldn't trade for a 700R4.
