Wanted: original 454/TH400/4X4 '72 PU

I just got a call from Alaska about a 72 GMC 3/4T 4X4 that I have for sale. It has 350/350 , but he wanted an original with 454 & TH400. When I told him there were no BBs and no TH400s in our 4X4 trucks, he told me he had several of them and I didn't know what the H... I was talking about. C-L-I-C-K...He just hung up!
I love this business!

Its funny how people can get their feathers ruffled over stupid little things. One of my truck buddies will not accept the fact that my truck has a dana 60 rear axle. He insists the truck should have had a 14bolt, and the 60 is from a Dodge. He will argue at the drop of the hat about it, too.

Got in a pissing contest with a moron once who claimed he had a 70 Chevy Super Sport truck. "Factory" he said. I said, they never made any SS trucks. Started spouting off about me calling him a LIER. Told me it even had SS badges on it.
Told him i had a Chevy Vega once with 327 emblems on it. Dont mean they were factory. hehe

#1 - no 454s in trucks until 1973
#2 - no factory 1 ton 4x4s until 1977
#3 - no TH400 in a 4X4 application until the late '70s

a little deceiving

Here is one that hints to a stock 402. As I read it the truck probably started as a 2 wheel drive body. Still decent looking truck. My 4x4 is going to have a BB!

I sent this guy a message about the ad. Here's the question and his responce.

You asked:
"Could you take a pic of the glovebox option sheet? You have it listed as an original big block truck, but these trucks were not avablile as a 4x4 big block until 73..."

this trick started life as a two wheel drive. The 4x4 frame was rolled under it during the restoration. thanks for you interest, Jeff

Some people will still swear that GMC's never came with coil springs and that a Chevy C10 never came with leaf... I told a guy that I replaced the entire front suspenion on my 67 with a coil spring/disk brake unit off a 71 GMC.... told me there was no such truck. I've seen about 15 GMC's in junkyards with at least a coil spring front end........IT WAS AN OPTION BACK IN THE DAY!!!!

How many of us have been told that the suburban isn't for sale...it's a rare 3 door?
I had a guy telling me about the SS truck too, a cat in Troy Mo...he was an idiot all around though. Swore up and down that his 91 camaro was a factory 350 with a 5 speed.

3 door burbs are rare, rare as 2wd lwb.

Remember the ad with the Camero( ) SS on a trailer with the pick-up truck with the same headlight setup as the car. Somtimes it is better to just nod your head and walk away slowly.

My old parts 69 GMC was coils. SS truck? Geez, that's a good one. Off topic, a relative swore his 1972 Maverick Grabber has a BOSS 302 from the factory...
