I have a frame that has rusted out sections, do I weld it ? If so, has anyone got any tips to prevent me from screwwing it up ?

The main point of concern is just behind the cab and just in front of the bed.

you would be much safer and better off just getting a different frame. if its that bad im sure there are other spots that are just as bad or almost there. welding new metal to old weak metal is a bandaid and wont last. think about what would happen if say you got hit on the side the truck broke in half and the cab went flying with you in it

This is a 1969 stepside c10 292 , what other models have tha same frame type?
I am in Massachusetts so does any one know any good places to start looking ?

short or long bed? look on the parts board theres a few swb's for sale on there now. also any frame the right length from 67-72 will work from a 1/2 ton the 67's didnt have the dimple for a power steering box. but any of them will interchange as long as they are the same suspension if you have a coil spring rear you need another coil spring rear frame same with leafs

Hey sicksanta, What part of Mass are you from. I have a 67 step sitting in my garage and I have been contemplating taking the cab and front clip off and selling the frame. Let me know what you think. If you are interested i'm willing to trade for parts, or money or both.

Welcome to the board from liverpool pa, USA. Does it have a lot of rust holes or is it only little sections? Is the frame solid from the front cross memberunder the engine to the back shock mount in the rear? Where are you located? what type and year truck do you have?

edit: sorry didn't see 69 c10 mass.

You should be able to pick up a frame pretty cheap in the Northeast. I'm in CT/RI and thinking of buying a parts truck...so let me know if you are interested and maybe that will give me more incentive to go buy it

Thanks for the pitch Andy. I just have to find the time to get the cab off and finish removing that front clip. If i'm motivated I guess i'll get it off.

Space is my motivation

Maybe I can accomplish stuff on Christmas break.

Man, thats one seriously rusty frame... I'd get rid of that thing ASAP, one major blow to the side would split that thing right down the center...

Toss the frame!! Your safety isn't worth it.... if the frame is that bad, what in the world does the body look like??? If your "new" to all of this you may want to scrap the whole truck, if the body is as bad as the frame, and look for a southern or western truck. The prices are higher for a solid body, but you save a ton in time, repair panels, and $$$$ in the long run.
