Windshield Replacement w/Stainless
Has anyone had difficulty finding someone to do a w/s replacement w/o buggering-up the trim?I just had a guy tell me it would take 3-4 hrs and it`s hard not to damagr trim.He offered to do a standard rubber replacement.I said,"what,is it a lost art already?"He was no kid.I was refered to this gut`cause I anticipated a problem, figuring most glass guys are just used to the glue-ins these days.I`ll keep lookin`.

Just had mine done. Guy really started whining when he found out the price I was quoted. He also wanted to install without the trim. I said no. I really did not think to tell em it was with the trim. They were a class act and honored the quote anyway. He MADE me help. I was more than ok with that. It looked easy... Then again you never know how many he screwed up to get that good.

For me Hope my glass guy doesn't screw it up..hard enough finding the trim, and I'm going to have it polished. If ends up looking like a pretzel...

I have put several in myself, trim really doesn't seem that much harder to me. I duct tape the trim down & put the top of windsheild in first, the lower corners are easier to get in. I even had to install one for a buddy whose glass guy broke one & never came back. It didn't even use trim. Brian

Had mine done by safelite they are a national chain. That was after I had 1 different company come to the house and I was gone for 10 minutes The guy called the office and said I needed a new gasket and left. The new gasket was laying on the hood. So safelite did it for $ 159. They struggled with it. But they got it in and they have a great guarentee. The problem they had was keeping the
stainless in the rubber groove while installing. I am in Va so I am sure there are some in MD |

Granted, I'm not in your area but I had my windshield and rear window installed Thursday. I called around an only one company wouldn't put the trim in. All others were fine with it.
The windshield was covered by insurance but not the rear install. Charged me $60 with my gasket. Took 2 guys about 1.5 hours to install both. They had no problems with the stainless. Looks like they did a great job. I'll know in a few months when I pull her back out and leave it in the rain for a while. The advantage to having them do it is they guaranteed no leaks. |

Hey CurbsideMech,I`ll check out Valley Glass. Are you talkin`about Tom Teagarden, aka Tom T Haul?Yeah,he`s my neighbor.Pound41,We have Safelite around here, too.I`m sure it depends on the installer, not the company.I actually use Safelite in Frederick,MD for all my auto glass needs on late-model work. Thanks, everyone for all your responses. One day I`ll try to do one myself.I`ve done the standard before.

Yep, one and the same. He's always treated me good and I consider him a good friend. I have been telling him that I will stop by the next time I drive my truck to work, I may take a load of scrap to work on Tuesday, depending on the weather. Will you be around say at 4pm-4:30? If not, have yourself a Merry Christmas Curbie
