Vin Trouble
Well I picked up what I think to be a '68 GMC LWB from Fleetside72 this weekend. I am having trouble deciphering the VIN- CS2590D PC3227B. Can anyone out there give me a hand? I would post a pic of the vin plate but I think the pics I have are too large.

GMC VIN's are not sequenced the same as Chevy. Gohere

Alright that clears up some of it. CS259OD PC3227B= 2 wheel drive, v6, 3/4 ton, Wide Side, Pontiac, 1967. The 59 is the only part that doesn't work out.

C= Conventional S = six cylinder 2= 3/4 ton 59= a 54 inch dimension from cab to rear axle....they just did it like that. 0D= wide side box P=Pontiac asembly plant C= 1967 Rest is sequence number Are there marker lights on the side of this truck? I had one truck I saw have the B at the end also. From what I can figure..its a left over type way that GMC trucks produced in the United States were given a GVW rating...typically B meant 3/4 ton. In older 62-66 trucks thats the way GVW rating were done. So that's what leads me to think that way. It works in this case.

Since the pics are too big to post? could you e-mail be a picture of your glove box option sticker and the vin plate to roger0080@netscape.net? I'ld like to see this.
I have a picture of an option sticker with a "B" on the end of the VIN, but of course, I cannot readily find it. Dang. Thought I was seeing things when I first saw that (wasn't perfectly clear photo). Rod, are you saying that for this GMC VIN that they stuck the cab-to-axle in the VIN? That would have to be the weirdest I've seen on here. Wonder what the MODEL= looks like then. The 2 and B in this case would be redundant info in the VIN.

Yep the 2 and B are redundant in my opinion also.
Let give a stab at a model number and see what happens.. How's this one look CS25934 or CS2590D one other possible way is C9S25934 But I haven't seen too many that last way...but its a GMC. So? I'm guessing the first one. I figure thats whats there. I'm guessing that the year is not in this ones model number code. Lets hear about it.

Unfortunatly the glove box sticker is gone. Was there such a thing as a heavy 3/4 ton? This truck looks like it has a Dana 60 with some very beafy leaf springs. This truck also has a '70 chevy front clip and hood. Blue Beard whats your email? I'll send you some pics.

Rod, I have a picture of a 1967 Oshawa funky VIN, funky Model:
VIN Number: C9S1471<can;t read> MODEL# C9S10934 Still look'n for the B vin... Why is GMC so all over the board with this stuff while its counter-part Chevrolet is more consistent through those years? sigh.

Thats a 67 GMC..it was fairly common for GMC trucks built in Canada to have that 9 after the First C. It designated that the truck was built in Canada. You can see it was buit in Canada by the number 1 in the assembly plant position...Oshawa Plant in Canada....
C9S1471 < Thats last number 1 being the assembly plant position. C= Conventional 9= GMC Canadian Built S= Six cyl 1 = 1/2 ton 4= fleetside box 7= 1967 1= Oshawa assembly plant. Its sort of like the 72 vins where a second letter C meant Chev while a second letter of T meant GMC CCE142 CTE142 start like those above in 72 only for 1/2 ton 2wd. Your model number MODEL# C9S10934 C= conventional cab 9= GMC Canada 1= 1/2 ton 09= 54 inch dimension from cab to rear axle.....you'll notice GMC and Chev used different numbers to represet 54 inches,..while GMC used code 59...chev model number used code 09 34= fleetside Works out all pretty simple once you see them all a few dozen times. That last letter dosent show up often...but I have seen it.. if it were in vin in your case it would have been a letter A to represent 1/2 ton GVW at the end of the vin not the model#. so B = 3/4 and C = 1 ton and so on upward as the GVW's climb.

C=- conventional cab M= V6 1= 1/2 ton 59= cab to rear axle is 54 inches OD= wideside P = pontiac assembly plant C=1967 5644= sequence number A= GVW range of 1/2ton see the pattern of the GVW range at the end of the vins..above trucks vin is a 1/2 ton hence A.. way the threads up the truck had a B at end and it was 3/4 ton..hence B is 3/4 ton.
