Looking to buy a 67-72 4x4 beater, frame, or parts truck to convert my 2wd to. Really just need a frame. But would purchase a whole truck. Found one but never stopped to ask about it and when I finally did a man had been there the day before and paid $400 for it!!!!!!! So, looking in the Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Arkansas area.

There was a 70 lwb 4X4 located on Highway 400 just east of Wichita the other day when i drove past. Looked like it ran and drove, but was a true "beater" i really wanted to stop, but my wife was driving, and you know the rest. I'll try to get back over there and take a look.

I would appreciate it griesel72. Really all I need is a 4x4 frame. So, I don't want to spend a whole lot on a nice fixer upper if you know what I mean. Let me know if you get back over that way because as long as the frame is straight and in good shape and all 4x4 components are there it would be worth the trip for me. I live in Stillwater, OK so that would be a trip I could make there and back in one day. Thanks for info.

griesel72 - did 4x4's have wheel covers (hubcaps) originally or were the lock outs visible. I didn't know if the only way to tell if a truck was 4x4 was to see the lock outs or were the lock outs covered by a wheel cover originally. I ask because there is a guy who lives close to me and has several 67-72 trucks sitting out in his pasture. I didn't know if one could tell a 4x4 from the road or not.

i thought the lockouts stuck through the hubcaps, i haven't seen any that were covered

Was there a certain emblem on the lock outs or did they just look like any other lock out on 4wd vehicles?

There are different kinds of lockouts on our years, they were never covered, the hubcaps had holes for the hub to go through.

Lock-outs were an option.Without lock-out option,the hub would have a smooth cap.Could look to be part of wheel cover at a distance.The front-end should sit noticeably higher than a 2wd,like 2" at least.More like level than a 2wd.
