Are there any kits out there to rebuild a power steering sector. If so where do you find them? Also, how difficult is it to rebuild one...any special tools etc.? I see LMC and a few other companies sell rebuilt ones for $200+ but obviously I would like to save some money if I could. Thanks for the help...John

Gates and I'm sure others offer a seal rebuild kit, I am not sure about bearings etc. but a good parts house should have a listing for the seal kit listed in the steering hose section of their parts book.

Seal kit alone is $45. I went to rebuild mine, when I opened it up the steel balls went all over the shop. So I threw it back together and bought a rebuild. Autozone has them a bunch cheaper, but I don't know how good they are.

As stated, seals are readily available from the parts stores. If yours just leaks around the Pitman arm and steering shaft input these two seals are easy to replace if you have the box out (do both if you have it out). I did this to mine a few years ago and drove it until it got too loose.

Then I broke down and got the $200 reman from the parts store ;(

This experience is with a 4x4 box if that makes any difference.

I am rebuilding a '72 k20....and I want to do everything right the first time. I have no idea if the steering sector leaks or not because I have never driven it. I figured being a 30+ year old vehicle everything would be fairly loose. For this reason I wanted to completely rebuild the steering sector. Would you guys suggest to buy an already rebuilt sector or call it good with the one I have?.......John
