how do you remove emblems?
how can I remove a fender emblem? I have a Jimmy I am using for parts, and that happens to be my son's nickname. So I thought it would be cool to pull the "Jimmy" off the fender, clean it up and hang it on his wall. How are they attached inside the fender? I don't want to break it trying to get it off. If I have to take the fender off, I'd rather cut it out I think. Thanks!!!

what year? if its bolt on it may be harder to get off than if it is a stick on one

I used to use a sharpened putty knife to remove them, back in the days of teh peeling paint. There are 2 studs that would normally require the fender to be removed. If you are not planning on reattaching the emblem, just pop the 2 studs off and the emblem will come right off.

that's good point, if I can just break off the studs without breaking the emblem, that would be great. Maybe I could heat up a putty knife with my torch... But then I might melt the emblem. I guess I will just pull the fender off. It will make pulling the motor easier anyway, right? Thanks very much guys!! Do you know how to contribute to this board, I didn't see anything in FAQ. Thanks!!

A sharp flexible putty knife and a small hammer will do the trick. Just slide it under the emblem and then tap it. The knife will cut the plastic stud like butter. Two sided 3M sticky tape will put on where you want it.

On some of the newer models, they did not bolt on. What they did was had what I called fender clips on them. If they have those, you just carefully pull them out of the clips and the clips will stay in the fenders.

If all else fails cut the plastic stud with a sharp putty knife and a tap of you rubber hammer.

hi guys. took it off last night with a decent metal putty knife, and a hammer. it worked great! there were two studs, approximately at either end. I didn't see the clips, but I'm sure they're still in the fenders, which are off the truck now. they were so bad, the bottom rusted apart and they tore off easily. the radiator is brand new, I got some Warn hubs, and a nice tilt column. I'm hoping to have the motor out tonight, just a question of time. thanks for your help everybody!

Hi Jim, thanks for the reply. I don't see how a hair dryer would work, with the studs being the main component holding it on. There was a good amount of sticky, rubbery (glue?) holding it on as well, but that really peeled off quite easily by hand. It's a good thing I didn't want to save the fenders (or remount the emblem). I wonder if the newer trucks like my 98 Suburban have the studs, or if they're just glued on... ?

the 98 Sub will use double sided tape, no studs. That's where the hair dryer comes in handy. Get the adhesive warm, and it will come off a lot easier. I hear dental floss makes a good saw through the double sided tape, too.
