newbie to the 4x4 world...4" lift questions
hey guys im looking into a 4 inch lift for my 71 gmc halfton...its out of a 69-72 blazer...would it work on my truck? also is a 4 inch block a bit much? or do a lot of guys use blocks that tall? also the springs on the front, are they the same as a truck spring, and will driveshafts be an issue? do they need to be lengthened? im not a serious off roaded, the main reason i want a lift is to give the truck a tough look and so i can fit bigger tires, i do 4 wheel a bit but its mostly used when the roads get crappy up here...oh and do you need a drop pitman arm with a 4 inch lift ? from what i understand you can get by with a stock pitman arm but with the drop is recommended...im probably way off with what i think i know so can the guys with the right knowledge help me out here...sorry for rambling on and on
Derek

I don't know about the year swapability. A 4" block is fine, especially if your not a hardcore off roader. On the street you may get some spring wrap if you run it hard. For the steering correction there are two ways to go - a dropped pitman arm or a raised steering arm. For a 4" I would use the dropped pitman arm; if you use a raised steering arm you will likely have bumpsteer.

Derek, The lift will work fine for your truck. Put the lift on and adjust the steering draglink to center the steering wheel and drive it, if you get a lot of bump steer consider adding a raised steering arm vice the drop pitman arm. The raised steering arm covers 4-6" of lift the dropped pitman arm is about 2". Retighten all of the u-bolts periodically, especially on the rear with the blocks they can and most likely will loosen up.

I am not positive but I think the Blazers have different rear springs than the trucks. I think Blazers use 6" springs to get a 4" lift. Check out the Off-Road Designs rear shackle flip for a 4" rear lift. http://www.offroaddesign.com/catalog/shacklekit.htm I have one on my truck with stock rear springs and it works great.

Even if the Blazers use different springs in the back it won't matter to you. A 4" block will raise any vehicle 4".
