71 versus front end loader

Hi all. An idiot front end loader driver pulled right in front of me this week and I could not stop in time. I nailed him in the bucket at about 50 km per hour or 30 mph. I don't think that there is any frame damage, just cosmetic. From what I can tell I need a drivers fender, bumper, bumper brackets, inner and outer grills, and hood hinge. The hood can be repaired, as well as the inner fender . The rad cradle is bent but I have a replacement. My delema is that I am going to see the insurance company on Tuesday, and am sure that they will want to write the truck off. I don't want that to happen. (For obvious reasons) If they do, I will buy it back and fix it, But that is a lot of BS going through the inspections and such. How much is a fair price for my truck that the insurance company should pay me if they total it? How much should I be buying it back from them for? There is nothing really fancy about it. It has a 350, decent shape, some rust but not excessive. It has a pretty decent sound system. and overall well maintatined. I put in a 700r4 last year. I tried to upload some pictures, but they are too large. I will add them when I figure out how to shrink them.

PS if anyone has any parts I may need in or around Winnipeg, PM me please.

Thank you
Jason

I think I saw you go down Ness yesterday, ouch. You got it on the drivers side right? I think I have an extra brand new drivers side repro front fender, not positive if it is the drivers or passenger.

look in the local clasifieds for trucks in the same condition as your was and use that to get a value. stuff is only worth what some one will pay for it. My insurance company had me take pics of my truck inside and out to be able to prove its condition incase it got trashed or stolen. the other place to look is NADA and Kelly

If it's a runnin drivin truck with any kind of new parts it's worth at 3 grand to insurance. Allow the estimator to allow used parts in his estimate and you can probably get em to save it. Considering it's not your fault they will likely be inclined to give you a little slack. You are the injured party.

I had a nasty incident a few months back and was just able to save the truck with 1500 damage on it based on used parts ( with new parts it would've easily been 3 or 4 grand). I had lots of good stuff on the truck but the body was trash. I took a cash settlement and will repair it myself as I have a new body in the works anyway. By keeping it from being a write off I avoid all of the hassles too.

If the insurance guy starts giving you numbers that you don't like, start rubbing your neck. If he doesn't respond you can start twitching a lot and explain to him that this stuff just started happening after the wreck. LOL Heck, my necks starting to hurt now just thinking about it. LOL ........j/k Hope everything works out..........Jerry

Unfortunately, we have "no fault" insurance and cannot sue for personal injury. If you lose an arm or something like that, they look up a number on a "meat chart" and give you a set amount but it doesn't matter if you are a surgeon or a bum, you get the same amount. Got to love socialist governments.

I have figured out the pics.

Gee Emm. It was me driving down Ness. Yes it is a drivers side fender and I would be very interested in it. Do you still have that outer windseild frame (top) I was going to pick up from you in the summer?

Thanks everyone for your concerns. Just to let everyone know, I am not laying Ol' Blue to rest. She will be fixed and live for ever, just like all chevy's.

That is identical damage to what I have on my truck. It will estimate out at about 1500 damage using used parts. You should be able to get them to save it if you twist their arms a bit.

I friends of mine had a 70 s.b. that was totaled by a F*ord wagon his ins.co. said it was only worth $300. And he said no . He said i want replacement cost for the same model truck. He found 1 in arizona that was a 70 s.b. cst with fac a/c and tach and it was f/s for $6,500 and they gave him that much. If they tax these for that much then they are worth that much. Just put your foot down. Thats what ins. is for. JMO.......

Well they'll never be able to match that paint. That calls for a new paint job,and shoot all the chrome was knocked off the bumper from the impact

Just trying to help.

however it comes out,the truck would come home with me.It just has to be that way.
Good luck.

Great news everybody!!! The insurance adjuster called me back this morning. $3300.00 damage and they will be fixing it. I don't beleive it. There is still a chance that the body shop may find more damage and it may still be written off. The adjuster says that these trucks are worth a lot of money!!!! Just wanted to share my excitement.

An insurance adjuster with an open mind and some vision. You found the perverbial needle in a haystack.

Glad she's getting fixed. Could you pull a paint job off too?

Wow!... I'm glad you got a good deal and your truck is getting fixed! I would have thought that $3300 would have been enough to write one of these trucks off... I guess they must have revised something in their books... Awesome!

Which reminds me, I have to call Autopac tomorrow and see about my car's rear bumper that got tattooed with someone front licence plate. I love that we have skating rinks for roads here.

Wow at that price they must be planning on using new parts! Make sure they are Tri Plus or Goodmrark parts which is really Tri Plus repackaged.
