Anybody have any older dodge van knowledge? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Someone told me that some year older dodge vans came with their master cylinder mounted under the dash. Does anyone know what years this was? Thanks, .....Jerry

I don't believe it! I had two 1971 Dodge vans (1-ton and 1/2 ton) and ran 1 t. for 80,000 miles and never touched the brakes or mc! Wish I could be more help. I loved those 318 v-8's...they ran forever and never needed anything at all.

I don't know the year but the ones I've seen in the wrecking yards have the booster and M/C under the hood rather than under the dash.

Maybe A100 vans and trucks, not sure, but the B-series (1971-up) all had the brake master cylinder under the hood... but I believe the early ones ('till '77) had them mounted sideways on an angle bracket to clear the short hood.

I'm not sure,but you may look into the years around 1965,I know the 65 didn't have a hood opening,but not sure if it was under the dash,could be under the floor.

What ovedrive said is correct. I know for sure that dodges and chevys with a hood that opens have the master cylinder mounted in the engine compartment.

i saw a dodge van @ the j-yard the otherday & its master cylinder was uner the hood BUT it was sideways with a linkage.

As mentioned it would be an A100 model (flat nose van). It has been too long since I had mine (69 model which was last year for that style van), so I can't remember if it was under the dash or under the floorboard on the frame. I would imagine the old pug nose econolines would have had the same type setup, whichever it may have been.

I took some pics of my neighbor's 72 Dodge Tradesman 100. Its not power braked equipped so M/C is in the usual place. But you can see its would be a mighty tight squeeze to install a booster in these things.

my 74 had power brakes and the booster was in that position. Wish I owned a camera back then.

I was thinking of a 65 dodge van with no opening for a hood.The engine sits between the seats kind of.I don't know where the MC is located.Worth a look though.Shoot call Autozone,they may be able to tell you the location of the MC.

my girlfriends dad had a 77 with power brakes & the master cylinder/booster were sideways & were acuated by a bellcrank.

for the older A100, just found a picture and the brake pedals go through the floor board and don't hang, so I am going to assume that the master cylnder and booster are under the floor on the frame, not under the dash.

I haven't found any shots of the newer ones to see how they mounted the boosters.
