Longhorn Found

Went out to a friend's house today, and parked off to the side is a green longhorn w/camper. Peeked in the cab, the steering wheel is still pretty nice and the dash pad isn't even cracked. How rare is this model?

42,422 longhorns were built combined C/20 and C/30 over the 68 - 72 years.
What year and size is it? You can find production numbers on my website.

This Longhorn is a 69 C20. It has the Eaton rearend, side emblems say Custom Camper, 8 350. Was the Eaton standard on the C20 model?

lets see.... 69 was the highest production model year for the Longhorn, and the C/20 was the more common of the two models. So as far as rareness goes, it is about the least rare of the longhorns.
The Custom Camper badge is a small option package that is mostly heavy springs & shocks, HD tires, and a front sway bar. So that option package isn't a whole lot there.
however, something I have seen on a certian green and white '69 C/20 Longhorn...sometimes the truck may have the top of the line option package (CST) but for one reason or another, it would be badged as a Custom Camper if that package is included too. So even though the one you saw says custom camper, there is a chance that it has allot of the desirable options from the other packages.
The 350 was probably (speculation here) the most common engine in the 69 - 72 longhorns. (The 350 was new for 69, in 68 the big smal block would have been the 327)
The eaton/corp was the Diff that was under many 3/4 ton and one ton trucks, there was also a dana that was under most big block trucks, and from what I have been told, they were found under other than big block trucks fairly frequentlt in the later years.

the only production numbers i have is for the Canadian made 1971 longhorns.316 made here in 71.welcome to the board from canada
At any rate you sould try to save that truck.

My wifes truck is a 71 longhorn custom.It is a factory 402 truck, with the dana rear,and swaybar.the production is 316 made in canada.when i asked gm about how many had the 402 in them they said about 5% or so.Ours is different as it is not the cheyenne or custom camper model with the 402 in it.Just a basic truck with the 402 that gm said was weird and there were many big block trucks made in the custom line.

That sounds about right, just like there were only a hand full of CST/Cheyenne/super trucks made with an inline.

what shape is the truck in?, but with custom camper everyone is correct, my 69 is a custom camper 10 but it is also a CST, check the glovebox and see if the CST emblem is on it

Here is a 70 GMC 3/4 ton Custom Camper Longhorn that sold on E-Bay yesterday for $1,030 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...e=STRK:MEWA:IT ). The seller did not list it as a LongHorn but you can tell by the photo's. The bedsides looked to be in good shape but the cab had seen better days. I was tempted to bid since it was only a 3 hour drive from where I live but I overspent on Christmas (like every year).

Looks like you got a good deal Uncle. Looks like your trying to corner the market on Longhorn's . The one you picked up off E-Bay in December looks like it has good parts. Did the blue steering wheel look as good as the picture showed?

Yea, that makes 4 plus 1 for parts. Blue wheel is decent. As bad as this sounds, I really can't remember. This is definitely a disease. Cureable by death I guess. Hey John, I know where there's an ochre truck, but have never caught anyone at home.

I know where 2 Longhorns are. '71 C30, 402/TH400, a weird pale yellow (original) color. Its body is pretty much scrap, but the tailgate was taken off when the truck was brand new and a liftgate installed. Absolutely perfect shape. It must be a Cheyenne or Super, because it has wood trim too. Its still running and driving.

#2 is another '71 C20 402/TH400 dana 60 rear. Blue over white, iirc. Its been inside a storage facility for over 20 yrs, owner parked because of bad wheel bearing.

I am slowly trying to acquire both of these. Will keep everyone updated if anything ever happens.

Saw a real nice one at the store this evening... kicked myself for not having a camera: 1971-72 GMC Sierra Custom Camper with 400, Ochre and white paint... the thing looked like new! It even had polished slot mags! (and we have tons of snow here right now to boot, which is even more surprizing I even saw it!). I should have hung around longer and got more details.
