new seats make all the difference
Got my bucket seats installed last night...installed a piece of parts store carpet over the fuel tank with the top portion folded in and secured to the bottom of the inner wall over the tank. It isn't as nice as what goes there with stock buckets, but it was only 10 bucks and 30 min labor....good enough for now.
The seats were pointed out to me on evil bay and I was outbid...so I contacted the seller since he had more than one auction for the same style seat. He offered me a set of (brand new) Bostrom medium height black cloth buckets shipped to my door for a total of 125 bucks. You just can't beat that. Drilled a few holes in the floor and bolted them down no problem. Noticed that since the seat backs are so much thinner than stock, that leg room is increased. Seat height is about one inch lower than stock bench seats are...cool, more head room AND leg room! I do need to go in and unbolt the front bolts and install about 1/2 inch or so of washers to get a little of the rearward tilt I have always liked. They are pretty much sitting flat and I personally don't care for it like that. While they are not the most comefortable seats made today, they are light years ahead of the stock (good condition) bench I pulled out. Full foam with a little bit of side support on both top and bottom cusions. They could be a tad firmer...but they are not too soft. I sprayed the later style k/5 console I got from Fine 69. I need to redo the lid. I ended up tossing it into the sand blaster and roughed it all up like that, but I discovered that the bare spots came out real glossy and the parts that still had factory coloring was kinda semi-gloss. I'll have to strip it all down and prome it so i can get the semi gloss look I like. Has anyone ever raised the console up? I would like to have it high enough that I can lean on it a bit. (This town car has spoiled me) I was thinking that I could place some 2x4s underneath and probably cover them with carpet so they don't look stupid. I just wonder if the console would then look retarded...anyone have input on this? Here is a pic...I'll try to get the others re-sized and posted here in a min. |

Yeah, here's a couple more.
What's everyone's opinion? I like how they are not drasticly different from stock, yet very comfortable and were extreemly inexpensive. |

just a fyi, a lot of cd players will not work at this angle, I tried a few brands before finding out my pioneer would work. Also the deck has a twist style volume, so it is nice to use while resting my arm on the console. easy to do, I later added grey vinal to cover the bolts, also my goal was to take the lid off of another console and cut the tip off and make a cap for the stereo, that way if the truck is to be unattended for a while, just put on the cap and it is stealth |

Ouch, that's hitting below the belt!! (And you're right)
If I go buckets, I'll have to get that sellers ebay name from you. (Too bad I sold my damn console).

I don't know if this dude bought a whole bunch as a discontinued model, or if they are stolen, but I don't think anyone could buy a set of new Bostrom buckets for 60 bucks holesale.

Those look amazing in there! It's giving me second thoughts on whether or not I should rebuild my old bench. I wonder what those normally sell for and where a guy could score a set.

Bostrom seats
Knowing the product, you got one heck of a deal! The seats I sell at the local Peterbilt dealership in this line go for $900+ each, but they're air-ride and oscillating- but Bostroms are NOT cheap in any configuration!
I sold a Seats Inc. low-ride seat to a fellow who installed it in his Dodge p/u, with an on-board electric air compressor. It was virtually a bolt-in job, with one small bracket for the front left side at the floorboard, where it dropped off from the flat portion of the floor to the door. I think it finally ran him a little over $500, but it's completely helped his poor ol' messed up lower lumbar! He tried pillows, etc., but still couldn't drive more than a few miles without severe pain in his back. This solved it & I was glad to help the fellow out... |

They look great longhorn, I set mine in the cab and will bolt em in after I repair the drivers floorpan, Now I just need a factory console to complete the look. These seats are soo cool, probably one of my best e-bay finds! You guys that want em, he probably has more sets left, I got mine for the $40 starting bid plus $65 shipping!!! I was thinking of buying another pair to sit in front of the PS2 in my daughters room (where these set before I put em in the truck!)

seats...
Hey Longhornman,
Could you please measure the gap between the seat? I am wondering if either a Dodge or Superduty flip up seat would bolt in between them.... Or, is there enough room for 3 seats across? Please let me know as I am hunting a set to get more leg room etc when I get my ride all straightened out. Thanks Stace |

I was going to ask the same question about the center console...I have a nice one I got from Bamm 24, and I want to put it in my truck. But seeing as how most of these consoles are cracked around the bottom mounting points, I'm leery of actually leaning on it. Anyone else ever raised one up?

How about a link to an auction?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...sPageName=WDVW You could put 3 across, however, the drivers seat would not be centered on the steering wheel, and that is WAY worse than it sounds. I was working on an old POS 86 Rustang at work and some kid put in racing buckets, they were so wide that they wouldn't sit centered where they were supposed to go and the steering wheel was about an inch to an inch and a half to your right. After only 30 min of driving, your lower back muscles would be sore. I can try to measure the distance, but it'll be later on today since it is at the shop. I plan on goin in and getting some brake work done. The consoles being cracked...mine has some damage, but it looks more like someone couldn't get the last bolt off the floor and just pulled it up anyways. Where else do they normally crack at? |

If you took that box out of the bed you could reverse mount the bench in the back for the drive in, cruise in etc..

lets see...an alluminum diamond plate Snap On box that is big by huge....or a ratty old bench seat...
If you wanna make the trip, I can fetch the seat out of the dumpster and we can mount it in the back of your truck. |
